I just bought a new SG. The way I play/rest my arm on the body causes this one to have a bit of a built in whammy. Is that normal? Did I get a lemon? I had an SG years back, but I dont remember it being like this. Not sure if this is something to be concerned about. Thoughts would be great. I can still return, but I like the guitar. I value your guys' opinion except Big Al's.

My 2014 ES has similar issues and it has bothered me since day 1 I will be selling this guitar .

My advice is return the guitar this is not acceptable !!!

The weight of my arm on tuning key changes pitch !

What a super question! Thanks for asking!

SGs, in particular those with the short heel (“long neck”), are notorious for exactly what you’re describing.

Big Al, you’re up.

Is this really how you want to showcase yourself on this forum?

Sorry. I just always think of the South Park Character when I read his negativity....Didnt want to hear his reply bashing me like he does everyone else. That all. No more.

SG's are easier to bend for sure. But NOT unintentionally. If it is that weak I'd send it back.

I used to hate Al when I was new.

Now I love him like a brother.

He is an acquired taste.

Trust me on this. He is really a great person.

And a valuable asset to this community.

After getting your eggs sledgehammered a few times you realized he is making Eggs Benedict.

He has no tolerance for people that look to popular opinion to create THEIR opinion, and then act like experts with opinions as the basis. He made his living for 30 years as a gigging musician, tech and shop dealer. He broke more strings than most ever changed...

It can be normal if you're extremely heavy handed. As for Al I have a feeling he's not gay. But I am surprised our Italian friends aren't offended by the use of the term "Spaghetti". :hee

And I apologize to our French friends for indicating you could use a sledgehammer in the preparation of 'Eggs Benedict'.

Us Americans will often use metaphors in the hope our oafish actions could in any way be acceptable to those with breeding and manners.

If you were offended I would invite you over this Christmas for some spiral sliced Foie Gras.

Because we all know that is very acceptable.

And I will use a chain saw for the slicing!...

SG's are not the only guitars that sometimes have a soft neck. It's pretty rare IMO. But geometry is obviously a contributor as the SG has a neck that joins the body at a higher fret than an LP. In general mahogany is less rigid that maple so have never experience a Fender style bolt on with a soft neck. I'd return it.
