I played a 339 for a few minutes. I loved the sound & the looks but the frets seemed very high. Can't find a fret height listed by Gibson. Anybody know what the standard fret height is and if other sizes available ??
I'd hate to order one knowing a fret job was in order.

When I first got mine I measured the frets w/ a Digital Caliper. I came up w/ .055" tall & .09" wide. I believe they are called 9055's. I like them alot!

I found them on the Musikraft fret size page. I like them alot! So much so, I ordered a few Tele necks w/ these frets installed.

I measured them on mine a few weeks back and I was getting about what was it? I think .050~.051 somewhere around there.

Gibson's frets often seem higher than they are because they seldom crown them and they leave the factory flat-topped and slab-sided-in my experience.

i find the standard frets that gibson is using these days much too tall for my tastes, so when i custom order a guitar i always have them use the ones on the page model as they are much more like a vintage gibson. that's what i specified for my sig model too. it's no big deal though, to have a repairman take 'em down and re-crown them, which i do when i get a guitar that comes with those tall ones. i wouldn't let that put you off on the rest of the guitar if you really like it. it's easily fixed.

I have had my ES 339 for a couple of months now and just cannot get used to the tall flat topped frets. Another thing I found right from the start was playing up the neck beyond the 14th fret is impossible because the cutaway will not allow my hand to fit in the small scalloped design. The guitar sounds just wonderful and plays great after I gave it a complete setup including the nut adjustment which was very high. Also the bridge was not crowned to match the fretboard but I fixed that also. Another couple things that needed attention was the full length of the back side of the 30/60 neck was very bad orange peel in the finish which I wet sanded and buffed out. The neck pickup trim ring was installed backwards so as the top surface came no where near being on the same plane as the strings. No I did not bother to send this guitar back but in hindsight I should have and then picked out a guitar that had some quality control. I have several other guitars which are made across the pond and they are all flawless when it comes to fit and finish. Gibson needs to get there act together or else lower there inflated prices to match the product. This one may have to go down the road one day soon. Thanks for letting me vent.

They're most likely a Dunlop 6105. That's what was on my '06 ES355 LD. Gibson seems to be using them on quite a few models now. Mr. Easton made a good point, they can be taken down and/or dressed very easily and with very good results.
