Weird question I know but could a Marshall cabinet positioned near a T.V set Could cause a damage to the T.V due to it's magnets?

try a degaussing coil and wave it in front of the TV before you throw it out. modern TVs usually have built-in degaussers so you can try that first.

It may not be permanently ruined. The same thing happened to me about six months ago or so; I just turned the tv off for a while & MOVED THE CAB!

Boy, that's a new one on me. What the heck are you guys using for speakers? Late model ones with Neodymium magnets? :wow I've had a small combo with a nice old G12-65 sitting RIGHT next to the small TV in my workshop for freakin' ages and the TV never blinks... other than the remote vibrating off the top when I'm testing out a guitar I just worked on... :rofl

There is also the old TV repairman's trick of manually degaussing with a Weller soldering gun. (Follow Cog's advice of leaving it off for awhile first.)
It should not be ruined! Look for a degaussing button somewhere first.

If that doesn't work...

The soldering gun (not iron) is an electro-magnet which can be used for degaussing.
With the TV on, turn on the soldering gun and move it next to the front of the tube in the top-left corner. Move the gun in a slow, circular, clockwise motion around the outside edge of the screen. You will see the tube turn different colors (pretty!) as you move the gun.
After each lap, you will be moving the gun ever closer toward the center of the screen. You are working from the outer edges of the screen toward the center. When you get to the center of the screen, move the gun away from the screen.
Release the trigger on the hot soldering gun.
Repeat as necessary as you learn how it works (speed, distance, spacing, etc.).

Already sent the T.V to a technician but I did try the degaussing thing, the thing is totally dead,no pic,no sound,no nothing..it didn't happen all at a sudden,it started with early signs like weak colors and momentary shut offs but now it's completely dead.
mofinco, I'm talking about a cab with 4 greenbacks, they have huge magnets. this things go through walls and here in Israel we have cement walls not like in the states where the walls are paper like(well,at some places),I swear I moved the cab to the next room and because the rooms are aligned with each other the dam T.V still turned green on me.
anyhow, thanks a lot for the input guys.

That doesn't sound anything like the problems the speakers caused w/my tv set. It only affected the picture, & only the color. The cab was sitting too close (within 3 ft) & threw the color balance off. If you moved the cab you could see the colors shift, kind of a rainbow effect.
They were also Greenbacks, BTW-

Gotcha... still, those greenbacks only have 56oz magnets, and they're ceramic... I agree with Cogs... there's more going on with your problem than just having had the speaker nearby.

Sony's usually degauss when you first turn them on. I'm not near mine so I can't remember if it'll do it from standby or from a cold power-on but you definitely hear the sound of the coil surrounding the screen energise when it does it.

Try pulling the power cord and then switching it on again afterwards to see if you hear it degauss. If it doesn't get rid of the problem then I think you've got more problems with it than just a bit of gaussing of the screen.

IT HAPPENED TO ME WITH MY TRINITRON, JUST HIT THE DEGAUSSING BUTTON, all ok. if you leave it there too long, like for a few days, it ruins it permanently.

Now I'm confused..as i mentioned, the T.V is already at the tech's lab but you say it happened to you too? the cab sat near the T.V for a year or so and every time i moved it across the set the screen went green..natural phenomenon i thought to myself and carried on.from time to time i have noticed a deterioration in the pic quality..sudden unexplained pops and crackles but one day it just went dead..well I'm guessing I'll just find a better position and that's that.
again..thanks all for you're concern in what appears to be a minor thing but a Sony 29" set cost here at least twice the price you pay in the states..

I ruined a TV once by setting a bookshelf speaker on top. I can hold an old 12" Vox silver dog I have sitting in the room right now in my lap and my computer screen goes purple and green. Hardly a monster magnet. Puts a pretty big magnetic strain on my RGB from 2' away. Even from 3' away it still affects the screen.

It's a problem when you live in a two room apartment and theres no where to "hide" you're T.V from you're Cabs (I have 2) as the magnet force goes through walls..but hey,if i have to choose:my cab or my T.V then..i'll stick with the cab..as for a computer..I don't Know..give up this wonderful forum?
well "nobody promised a garden of roses", tough life..:)
