I need some 50’s Les Paul electronics expertise. I just purchased a vintage 1956 gold top Les Paul. It appears to be completely untampered with. It has Cornell Dubilier capacitors in it. Could these be correct. They are white paper cylinders. I don’t recall seeing these before. Has anybody encountered these in a 56 Les Paul? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know it has been a while since your post, but just wanted to chime in. You see those caps is some 55/56 Gibson's. Seen them in a later 50's Les Paul as well. The outer shell is ceramic if I remember correctly. IMO the best cap to find in a 50's Gibson guitar as they almost always read exactly 0.022uf. I imagine if you were to check yours they would read to perfect spec as well, or at least very close meter dependent.
