• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I think you are wrong, Zhang...

... Gibson is not likely to fade away, and the Les Paul is not likely to become uncool any time soon.

The prices will probably drop, but I think there are three solid electric guitars that will always be the epitome of cool for a large number of players:

1. The Fender Telecaster
2. The Gibson Les Paul
3. The Fender Stratocaster.

Especially when one considers what happened after the 8-year hiatus of the original Les Paul style, I don't think the fans will ever let it fall out of production again.

I hope you're right, Sam, and I do see LP's in the hands of some of these newer bands profiled in Guitar Player from time to time. If the Lester can survive the onslaught of Cookie-Monster-Hip-Hop-Metal and 7-string and its residue over the next few decades, it will remove whatever doubt is left in any sane mind that it is simply the greatest solidbody design of all time.

Which is not to say that I have anything against 7-string guitars; I plan on snagging a Carvin and slapping some Duncan 7-string Invaders in it to satisfy my progressive/shred needs.

I would also add to your list the 335 (and 345/355) as at least on Honorable Mention. It has to be the most UNDER-RATED guitar design of all time.

Did you guys see the latest issue of Guitar Player (the one with STP guitarist on the cover)?

I noticed that 95% of all the guitars in there were Les Pauls and Teles.

The new kids are very traditional. By being so, they are only insuring that they'll be cool guitars around for a LONG time.

57 Classic Plus

I have a set of them in my 70's LP. I think they sound great, very bright and responsive. I also record with this guitar, so noise is always an issue. These pickups are very quiet, that is, until I hit channel three on my Nomad. ;-)
