• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I was wrong about the $25K price. I looked again this morning and I have no clue where I got that price from. I was up since 3:00am and I think I must have been hallucinating by that time in the night! Sorry for the confusion!

I´m here, I´m from here, and I know the shop, although it´s 400 miles from me.
I called there two weeks ago. Price is around 70k. They told me the guitar has a top refin. There is no appraisal letter from anyone, so I don´t even trust the "top refin only". This is a high end shop, but with almost none experience with vintage guitars. And a friend of mine played the guitar and said it sounds good. Good is not even close to enough for this kind of money.

Hi guys, I know this shop, and I live very close to it. The guys on this shop are very selfish and think they are the best guitar shop in da world. If you enter their shop with 30 grand or more in your pocket, they will treat you right. But if not, they will treat you like your bothering them and pray for you to leave. Even if you have the money, sometimes they misstreat you. I entered there once with money to buy an R8 they had...no success. They were so lazy and not willing to do the deal (I wanted to finance part of the guitar) that I ended up at another nice shop right next door (KrokodilePop guitar shop) and thank God, bought a nice R8 with a good deal.
I will try to contact them tomorrow on this 58 and see.

Sounds like the shops in Tokyo... if the 30K is not in yen, that is! :hee

And forget email... lot of shop owners won't even respond to you if you have a foreign name... unless it happens to be Clapton, Page, Beck, or, of course, Bonamassa! :jim

I would be all over that '58 if it is in fact, a '58! :salude

Now there is an update at their website and they claim it to be an "original 58".
No comments whether it is refinished or not....

Very obscure item!!!

Cavity shots - switch, pots, pickup routes - would tell the tale, or at least a lot more of it.

Not just the top, but that Les Paul silkscreen (almost looks like a decal) is pretty pristine too...

You have to wonder what's lurking under that refin - if you HAD to refinish the top only on a '58 I'm guessing that it would be really tempting to burst it unless it had some kind of repair.

I'm not saying that it's what I'd do, but you'd probably have a slightly easier time selling an off-center seam '58/'58 conversion with OG back and sides than refinished mystery meat.

What does "OG back and sides" mean? :hmm

If you went there once rather than send them emails in a foreign language, you'd see that all guitar shop clerks are more than happy to let you play any guitar in the store and bargain on the price.
I walked in a small shop for the first time and they let me play a 58 and take pics without any hesitation. I sent an email in decent Japanese to a shop I had never heard of selling an aged Pearly reissue and the next day it was shipped over after I wired them the cash.
