• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Just thought you'd like to see a picture of my buddie's Flying V Collection: '67 Sparkling Burgandy, '67 Tobacco & a '68 Walnut. Sweet.

I read in an interview that Joe B said, "folks know something special is coming when you break out the V." Those are beauties. :2zone

Wow I'm speechless those are just too cool. The cases look almost identical to the Explorer cases supplied with the Explorers shipped in 63.

Considering that they only made 111 of these, I would say that he has THE premier collection of these in the World right here. He has been chasing them down for years and knows more about them than anyone. The '67 series story/facts is/are actually pretty facinating as these were basically experimental in a lot of ways and everything known about them has been compliled over the years by a handful of enthusiasts like my buddy Jeff.

The amazing thing is that the vast majority of these are broken and/or modified. The three above are not only unbroken or modified, but are also extremely clean examples...sans the tuners on the Metalic Burgandy.

Here's the two I had (I still have the refined Natural....originally Sparkling Burgandy). The Tobacco had a cracked headstock and an added third pickup mod that I reversed. I have posted these before, no harm in rolling them out one more time!

Kind of interesting, here is the only known example of an alternative case for these. It's a soft-shell black/red interior that my Tobacco guitar came with:

Love the guitars and that cool case! Like the cool natural refinish too. I remember seeing pictures of it before, but I had no idea that it was originally burgandy.

I think the 67 style V is probably my favorite Gibson. As a lefty, is the only model that I can flip over (restrung), play and the controls aren't in the way . Of course, I have full fret access too.

I don't have any vintage Flying V models, but I have several left handed models that are around 10 years old as well as two right-handed Flying Vs that I've converted to left handed as in my avatar.

Here's something that I just recently learned which solved the mystery as to why my Natural Refin still has a very vibrant serial number. Jeff's most recent V is this Sparking Burgandy. He told me that of the 6 that he has personally seen in this color, only 2 DID NOT have a Stinger and all came with a natural neck and paint on the body only like they did on the Melody Maker SGs. Mine obviously was one without the Stinger thus the untouched serial.

I dig how the back of this guitar looks:
