• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello everyone, I wanted to know if the Gibson LP Custom has been modified a lot and what year is it?
I have some ideas but I'm not an expert, the truth is that the characteristics of this guitar are quite confusing, the neck is a single piece and the body is pancake. Surely it was changed.
I would appreciate your views.

The TP6 is just a string change away. Not even part of the guitar. Could have been put on last week.

That guitar was built before TP-6 was an option. Cavity paint looks like factory black. Only the outside was stripped and painted.

Yup, OK. Paint just looked a bit thick to me. The pots and cap look legit.

Knobs?

Re the TP-6, OP asked for all 'mods'.

Is there a volute on the back of the headstock; kinda looks like it? Man...I can't really tell from the one photo. Agree--TP6 may have been added at some point later. The wiring harness may be considerably older...that soldering...some of it doesn't look like Gibson original work. I don't think they were using sprague black beauties in the 70s were they? I don't think that serial number--with a one-digit numerical prefix--came out of the '60s or even the '70s...

My '72 LPC came with Sprague Black Beauties, so they used them at least in the early 70's.

Ditto my '72 LPC did as well, even down to the same yellow shrink tubing on the legs like the photos here. Neck pocket and much of the headstock looks very similar. The only difference is the logo has the dotted i, so I would place it as later '72 and beyond, knowing mine is early '72.

Can anyone pick out the date codes on the pots?

Spragues not original to 1974 ,which what it looks like. They stopped mid-1973 using spragues.
