Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Hello there.
My 1974 LP Signature has a C profile.Measurements are:
1st fret .830
5th fret .900
7th fret .930
12th fret 1.00
They are great guitars.Being these are Les Paul's you may want to post this in the Sunburst Pub
At the nut it is kinda of a thick 60's but, there is quite a bit of taper to the 12th fret. After the fith fret it feels like a 50's rounded carve. For example my '99 R7 has the 50's rounded profile and it measures:
R7
1st- .890
5th- .930
7th- .945
12th-1.00
Sig
1st- .830
5th- .900
7th- .930
12th-1.00
So,at the 12th fret my Sig and R7 are the same thickness. The Sig by no means has a small neck. This neck is way bigger than the 60's carve. You say your 60's necked standard feels too wide? All the les Pauls have the same width 1 11/16 at the nut. They vary by depth and carve.Hope this helps.
I meant that the profile felt wide due to the lack of depth on the 60's necks. :## R7's feel more comfortable to me, but sometimes are too deep. It sounds like the Sigs might be a perfect in between.
You can't use a P90's in these guitars. They are hollow bodies. They do not have a center block like the 335's.P90's would need to be mounted to wood.Besides the pu's are different sizes.I have seen one Sig that had aftermarket mini humbckers in it w/special pu rings. As far as tone goes you have a choice of choosing 50k,200k and 500k.I always use the 50k setting. The others thin the tone of the pu's out, whick is cool for cleans.Comparing to a paf is difficult.I will say the pu's at the 50k setting have a fat and round tone with a very strong midrange.I did them.Hope this helps.
I'm getting one today - a sunburst - and am very excited. The other guitarist in my band plays an R7, so I'm thinking this will give us much more separation tone wise.
Are you using the low impediance outputs? If so, are you using a booster of some kind? What's the trick with these guys. Thanks again bro!
Congrats on getting a Sig :salude
I never use the low output. It is for recording to a board.Compared to my R7 the Sig is a bit thicker in the mids and has a more rounded tone. The highs are rather soft and smooth.Enjoy it.Post some photos when you can and give a tone report. You have a rare one there.I believe there were only around 300 or so Sunbust Sigs made. The rest were Goldtops. :2zone
pilotlight,
Are you diggin' your Sig?Does it's tone work for you? They really do have a signature(no pun intended)tone.Unlike anything else I've heard.I love the tone of mine. They are a bit different though, huh?.I would like to see a few photos. They are very unique and cool looking Lester's.I would not mind getting a Sunburst one someday.....
Les Paul said that the point behind the low impediance pickups was to have a very clean signal coming from the guitar. He said that he thought you should get all your gain and distortion from your amp and/or pedals. He has a point. He thinks getting distortion from pickups is all wrong, and that that's supposed to happen at the amp only.
So leave your low impediance pickups alone and just dial your amp in to get the sound you want.Add a pedal for crunch or whatever you desire,if pedals are your thing.
