I think my 1992 1275 has Mahogany necks. Is this possible?? I always thought they were supposed to be Maple but looking at the grain I think it might be Mahogany. I was just looking at a new Custom Shop 1275 & you can see the maple pieces put together but I don't see that on mine other than the wings on the headstocks like my other mahogany Gibsons. Anyone now for sure what's up?? I'm going to give Gibson a call this week & see if they can tell me for sure.

Oh & I like the feel & look of my old 92 better than the new, waaay more expensive Custom Shops! :applaude

Cheers
Sean

bringing back a thread from the dead, but the '92 EDS-1275 that i'm picking up this weekend seems to have mahogany necks... I emailed Gibson but they couldn't give me any info on the serial number, which to them is a proper Gibson # but it doesn't match the model... go figure...

These are the owner's/seller photos

Looks like tight grain mahogany. A look under the trussrod cover should tell you.

What about it do you think makes it not look like mahogany? And what do you think it looks like?
It's hard to see though the light glare on the pics, but from I can see, there's nothing that indicates otherwise to me.

Necks look like maple to me. And maple was much more common on EDS-1275s at the time….and most I’ve seen were three-piece.

It does look like mahogany to me. The grain where the finish sank (headstock angle and heel), looks like mahogany to me. Oh well, I shall see soon enough. Either way I'm sure it's a cool guitar.
