So my beautiful 60th Anniversary R9 came with the also beautiful Lifton reissue case with the lifton badge inside and the Gibson badge on the outside without the word "custom" on it. Now it seems only the more expensive reissues (murphy lab heavy and ultra heavy aged) comes with them. What's the deal with it? Has it always been like that? All the other reissues come with the other version of the case, without the lifton badge and with the badge "gibson custom" on the outside.

It's a nice case. My favorite iteration. I think they are beautiful. I really like the lifton badge on the inside, a really nice touch. I would guess they started adding that badge in mid/late 2018. In some cases (get it) I can appreciate the case just as much as guitar!

Didn’t know that … my 2018 Historic ‘60 has the Lifton case you are referencing.

Why are those new “Lifton” cases so bloody heavy? I have three original Lifton cases & each one weighs 1/2 of what these new ones weigh… they also weigh more than the guitars!

The cases built in Costa Rica tend to weigh the most. They have their cult following, though.

My understanding is they are particle board now, that would explain why they weigh a ton.

That would make sense for sure

I could have sworn I saw one that suffered a smash and exposed plywood. I’m probably imagining things again

I really like those Lifton a lot! That Lifton foil emblem on the inside really tops it off

I have the one with the badge on the inside made in Costa Rica. It’s the heavy one but it makes me assume it’s a bit sturdier. That could be in mind though. My question is when will they ever get the pink lining correct so I don’t have to keep re-lining mine 🤔

My 2018 R8 aged "Sweet Cherry" had the aged case and the Lifton foil sticker.
