• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I've really fallen hard for Les Pauls. Although I love my Les Paul Standard 50's I find the neck a bit too big for my liking. I thought I'd like the chunkier neck as I love my Tele's big Nocaster U, the neck on my LP standard feels a bit wider. After playing a few R9's in the store I found that I move much more freely and comfortably. Its a very fast neck that seems more effortless but still not as slim as a standard 60's. The neck on my standard 50's feels as big as the R8's I've played.
So by March of next year I will be on the look out for an R9. I'll still keep my standard though. Despite the neck being a tad big its still a great guitar and I'll like having 2 Les Pauls.

This was me rocking out at our gig last night.

Great pic in action.

Enjoy the R9 hunt.

Then, find reasons for another, then another. Or no reason. There's always something to appreciate in each one.

For me, the R9 neck is just the right size. I find if a neck is too thin, my hand will cramp up after a couple of hours.

Have fun looking for the one.

Cool photo. I also like the R9 neck, right around .87. If you play slide you can set up the '50's LP with higher action and heavier gage strings. Change your name to Duane:)

Yes I play lots of slide. Definitely a good idea to raise the action a bit on the standard. The action is pretty low and I really have to be careful with a light touch with the slide.

I set my slide guitar up with 11's and higher action (you may have to raise your pickup a little to compensate). Often times I leave it in open G or open D. LP's work great for slide given the flatter fretboard and humbuckers. I guess Duane and Mick Taylor were on to something:)
