• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Thanks! Great to hear the isolated tracks! I know the band rehearsed the shit outta this song before recording it. They did it live quiet a lot too before laying it down.

So fantastic that these got released.... two guys in their early 20s just doing what came naturally to them but was really ground breaking for a rock band.... and having been in an Allman Brothers Tribute for the last 20 years it was great to hear some detail here that you cant hear in the full mix... especially the rhythm patterns they are playing underneath each others solos

I’d love to hear your band. On a number of levels! When you put it in the perspective of ‘two guys in their 20’s’ it takes on even more significance. I’ll have been playing guitar 52 years this year. While I can emulate some of the notes, phrasing and even tone, I could no more put the whole segment of either one of their parts together, start to finish, than turn water into wine. That stuff is truly talent on loan from somewhere not of this earth. Otherwise, we could all do it.

What is Duane playing through? Sounds to my ears like a very small amp. Has a bit of that boxy/papery sound. Dickey's doesn't sound like a big amp either.

There are some videos on our site. Nobody can play and sound like the ABB themselves, but we do have fun playing the music for sure!

A great 1-2 punch combination. I always chuckle when I see one of the "top guitarist lists" and Duane is in the top 10 and they have Dickey at like 65...

Should be more like Duane at 5 and Dickey at 5.5... or vice versa

I must have come back and listened to those tracks a half dozen times. I was never sure who was playing what parts of that. Alone each track is amazing. Together they are just magic.

True dat!!!.... Duane was always considered the more aggressive and bluesy player and
Dickey the more melodic… Generally that was true… But Duane could play it real sweet when he wanted to and Dickey could really tear it up when he wanted to… Listen to Dickey in 71, closing of the Fillmore June 25, and his freeform section in you don’t love me… Talk about tearing it up with phenomenal tone to boot!

I feel the same way. Very 6L6-like to my ears. I can almost make my 30W Peavy Classic sound that way. On the one to three notes I hit that actually are in the same zip code as these dudes!

Or Dickey's playing on one way out - SUNY 71 CD...

Like some of you, I still come back to listen to these all over. I tried my hand at Duane’s part again today. I wonder how many players out there today are this good? You just know that there are some unsung, talented heroes. Except...who really has the discipline to do this kind of multi track exercise when so many electronic things are available?

I know the human DNA hasn’t changed all that much, I just hope some generation picks up the torch.

Let’s not forget, these guys were in their early 20s. Shall we discuss the cro-magnan nonsense we were engaged in in our early 20s?

I didn’t know my ass from a minor blues scale in my early 20s!
