I got a call from one of the salesman at my Goldmine pawnshop. He said he had an older Gibson ES-335 that was coming out,but he'd hold it till I could see it.

I begged him to send pics of the guitar, but he could never get them to go though. I told him I couldn't get there until after 4:00 pm. I had a lot of work to do, and the suspense was killing me.

Anyway I finally got there and was able to see it and play it. The guitar is in great condition and sounds very good. This '83 has a beefier neck and feels a lot better in my hand than my '70 335.

After I put it through its paces, I decided it was time to haggle. We went back and forth and got the manager involved. They finally gave me their walk away price. It wasn't one of my $300 out the door deals, but it was WAY less than most '83 335's I've seen on the internet.

I didn't have the cash to take it home, but I put enough down that they still honored the total cash out the door price. I have 4 months to get it out.

I'm hoping I can get it out in a few weeks. Now I gotta sell one of my lesser used guitars to get it out.

Here's some pics:

Thanks soul. I was really happy when I opened up the case. I was so glad it was cherry.

I really gotta sell a guitar or 2 to get this baby out.

That's beautiful. Agree that Cherry looks great on a 335.

How are the frets on that? I've got an '81 on loan from a friend and the frets are really quite low. I'm debating if I am going to grab it from him or not.

Thanks PD. The short time I got to play it at the pawnshop, the frets felt normal size to me. The did not feel small or very low at all.

The thing is, this one did not look like it's been heavily played. It's got it's dings and scratches, but the fretboard and frets are in great shape.

Once I get it out, I'll take it to may local guitar tech to give the once over and give it a proper set up.

After I put it though it paces at home, I hope I can live with the 300 ohm volume pots and the 100 ohm tone pots.

I've heard they can be an issue, but I'm hoping I can work with the guitar stock.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I had an '81 Dot I wish I'd never gotten rid of. It played like a dream. I bought it new and wish I had never sold it!

Sorry you parted with it. Out of curiosity , what did you give for it back in '81?

Well I posted a guitar on CL Sunday night and got a buyer who took it home yesterday. He was the only person who inquired about the guitar.
He had made up his mind that he was going to buy. Usually doesn't happen this fast, so I guess I got lucky.

Now I get to get my 335 out this afternoon. I'll have to pick up a set of 10's and get it set up properly this evening .

I'm really looking forward to hearing what the Shaw's are going to sound like through my setup.
