I have had just about every vintage fender amp you could want, and a few new reissues, but i just sold my tweed deluxe clone and i am playing clubs up in boston, it just wasn't loud enough. so my question is

I am sick of the Fender tone, but i am on a serious budget, about 700-1000 and 1000 would have to be for somthing really special

what can i score for that much money thats gonna play every night, and sound good and its not a fender or a clone of a fender?

i want a new tone and i am looking for something 25- 40 watts any one have any suggestions

JTM-45...

Get a Ceriatone and a nice little 212. You'll be a bit over budget but the tone is glorious. 38 or so watts. Takes pedals like a dream.

Man you're practically local. I'd build you one but I couldn't hit your price point. I'm down in Medford.

You can get a nice 212 cab for a couple hundred. Get a head from them and you're set.

I've got a headshell you can have. It's not pretty but it's free. It'll save you a couple hundred.

Many would consider this crazy-talk, but I think you might be happy with a Marshall JMD:1. It hits the pricepoint, and works very well live. It's also flexible as hell.

Not everybody's cup of tea though...but you shouldn't have any trouble finding a place local to you to try it out.

Were it me, I'd go with the head, and a separate 2x12 (I'm not crazy about the speakers in the combo.) Still should have no problem keeping under your price limit.

JTM45s are fantastic, but they'll run you more. The JMD covers a ton of ground.

If that doesn't work for you, I also think that the MA series are great low-cost amps. A used MA50 and a nice 2x12 should be well under your limit. Again, I'd opt for a separate head, as the speakers in the combo aren't superduper in my opinion...

I just can't see paying what Marshall wants for any of their new stuff when you can get killer hand built stuff for similar money.

i agree, marshall is FAR to expensive. idk i cant afford to wait ( need an amp by next thursday) and i just want something i can plug into and play i need 30 watts and i cant spend more then a grand, i feel like i am locked into a pretty tight box, where fender is the only option

Snag a Peavey Classic 30. Great little amps.

Definitely not implying that there isn't great hand-built custom stuff out there. And definitely not saying that the JMD1 and MA50 are the solution for everybody. You can get a used JMD1 or MA50 in the $450 range, and new they're $600 to $650. If you happen to like them (and I do) they aren't out-there price-wise (to me at least.)

Fair enough. I can build a JTM-45 for what one costs new.

I was going to suggest the same thing. For 30 watts, decent tone (better, IMO, than Fender's EL84 offerings), and cheap, you just can't beat a Classic 30.

Yup. I scored my second Avatar Vintage 212 for a couple hundred. Those are stellar cabs.

I bought my first one new. It was totally wasted after a couple of years of relentless gigging. It's still mechanically sound but after getting tossed in and out of the truck or trailer twice a week it's pretty beat.

I got the second one off the TGP classifieds. IIRC it came loaded with WGS ET-65's which are some of my favorite speakers so double awesome.

nice. i went with vintage 30's. not a popular choice around here, but i love my mids. so they are great for me.
