• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I had 2 laney supergroup amp heads. 100w and 60w. Dont regret selling them. They’re too loud. Great amps. Too loud. Can’t use them

I like looking at guitars and amps as much as playing them. Nothing is too loud or heavy. Some are just beautiful!

The best sounding rig I ever had was a Sunn 2000S head into a 6x10 Sound City cab. Guitar was a ‘61 Tele. What a beast. Sold the whole shitteree in ‘81 for a ‘77 LP Custom and Ampeg VT40, which was also a pretty bad ass setup. I could go on and on but I’ll leave it with the memories!

Sampson-era Bad Cat Cub. Sounded incredible, and I sold it for a grand after someone from the company talked me into ordering a brand new one because they were "light years better now." False.

2 parter….

I had a 66 super reverb that I bought in 73. Humped that bad boy from champagne, il to Chicago to buffalo to Denver and twice in Denver in the late 80’s I decide it was too loud with kids so I traded it for a badcat cub reverb with 2-10s which was fine except in a crazy search for the cleans from the super, I traded that for a Carr slant v6, thinking I could get the drive from the badcat and blackface cleans….. ooops 1 too far I never bonded with the carr and eventually traded that for my cornford carrera, still have that one

should have saved a lot of time and kept the super or at least the badcat, that one I would buy back

Probably my 1969 100W Laney Supergroup and my museum piece 1971 60w laney Supergroup but pointless to keep. Brought into the USA both from Germany on the cheap and made a good profit on both. But both required transformers or variacs.

When I was in High School, late 1990s, I was dreaming of a JCM2000 DSL50 head. My friends and my brother got together, pooled their money, and got me a Sovtek MiG-100 head! (I have been blessed with amazing friends!). I loved it, but at the time all I could understand was that I wanted more gain and a clean channel. I traded it in a year later for a Carvin X100B (also a great amp!), not realizing what a gem I had. I sure wouldn't mind one now! At the time I just thought of it as a cheap amp--a cool one, and believe me, I was grateful to have it--but nothing special. Now a quick glance at Reverb puts them in the same price bracket as a 2203.

I've had DSL50s in the meantime, and wouldn't mind having one again. Every time I have a stack (in whatever fraction), I eventually go, "who am I fooling, I'm not a rock star, and I don't need this much amp," so I sell it. Since then I've managed to outsmart myself by buying combo amps. 50w head + 2x12? Too much amp. 100w 2x12 combo? Just right! (until I have to move it...)

That's logic.

The one other amp I'd seriously like back would be my Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 Combo. So many good sounds!

I sold a late 50's tweed Bandmaster that I regret selling, although it went to someone who could really appreciate it. I sold my mint Fender Tone Master with two bottoms (4 x 4 and 2 x 4) - on one hand I don't regret selling it because it was too loud and big for practical use, but my hoarder instinct kicked in afterward with regret for letting that rare beast leave the sanctuary. I have way too many amps and should sell many that I'm not using much any more. I kept getting different amps thinking I would find the magic elixir, but realize that I'm simply an average player who was deluding myself into believing that the amp would make me sound amazing. Negative.

I think you've sold and missed more amps than I've ever owned!

Another one that occurs to me, that might not be an obvious one to miss, is the Crate Vintage Club 30. I sold it when I moved some years ago. I shouldn't have, because I didn't get much for it, but I then again I didn't pay much for it. It had its own thing going on, and what a wonderful thing! The OD channel was good. The "clean" channel broke up fairly early and was absolutely glorious as you pushed it. Very much like the tone on Mark Knopfler's "Golden Heart" album - I assume because he used Crate VC amps on that one (I think). Anyway, it was dumb to sell. I should pick another one up before they get expensive.

I had a chance to buy a JTM45/100 Reissue for super cheap a few years back. I also had a chance to buy a Metropoulos 67' Superbass built by George. Both times I had just bought an amp and couldn't afford it. I would give up most of my gear today to make that happen again.

Beat up 15w Crate amp that I gave to my nephew when he showed interest on playing guitar. That amp had some serious voodoo to it.
I have Crate vintage club 15 , Im 65 sold all my Marshalls , my Fenders but two , the Crate 15 stays for now including my Fender pro JR. A lot of gear went out the door last two years .

At some point, I had one of those Bluesbreaker reissues. This was an earlier one from the 80s IIRC. The guy who was the guitar tech on the tour I was on at the time was kind of obsessed with it and did all this work to it. I know it had KT-66s in it and he changed just about everything about it. I remember being kind of pissed because he disconnected the tremolo on it.

I think I traded it. Somewhere I may still have pictures he took. I had a list of everything he had done but I probably gave it to the person who got it after me. Turned up it sounded killer with the SGs I played at the time.

The guitar in this picture I was given by Ed Roman, who used to own a guitar store that was huge. It was kind of ugly but at the time the other guitar player in the act I was touring with played PRS and this guitar sounded and played way better than anything he had. I eventually gave it to him but I have a bunch of other ones.

I don't regret getting rid of any of my amps once I went digital, but really look back fondly at my old 68 CDR and Demeter TGA-2. Great amps.

I didn't realize that the one that I owned had a special mojo, but I've long regretted selling a Dr. Z Maz 18 2x10 combo in killer red tolex. I've had two other Maz 18's since then, and neither had the magic. I remember thinking at the time that as soon as I was back on my feet after a divorce, I'd just replace the one that I'd had...
