• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

and we complain about Gibson ???

I came across this guitar while browsing the web and it got me to thinking.
Gibson "quality" gets bashed so bad on other forums and PRS is usually their 'darling'.
Heck, we even bash Gibson here, ourselves.:rofl

When I saw this PRS body, I laughed, and said how a poorly matched
multi-pieced body would be mocked even if it was on a $699 SG faded.

This is probably the first thread I ever started, so go easy on me,
if you feel what it's about, is not appropriate for the LPF.:):)

Unsightly, yes. But I've see numerous Norlin-era Lesters with three-piece tops that looked that bad or worse.

true, but my post was really about current and recent production of both companies.

I believe that PRS is a limited Korina wood guitar, so I am sure it has something to do with wood availability. Kind of like a lot of Explorers & V's made with Korina in natural have 3 pieces. Maybe the V & Explorer body just looks less obvious due to shape breaking up the lines.

Now i kind of agree that it is not the prettiest one, but the more I look at it I see sort of see a natural 3 color racing stripe sort of thing, that actually size and grain wise is matched pretty well.

Funny, but to me the back matches much better and has a prettier figure. They should have flipped that blank around.

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Zoot-Suit/Overview.aspx

There are a number of others Ill just leave out and I wont even get into the exorbitantly overpriced scratchology guitars that are supposed "works of art".....

Now matter how goofy an axe appears and no matter at what price, its appears to float someones boat some where. I guess this falls under life is short enjoy what you enjoy, Oh and no I dont own PRS

I've not seen this guitar in person so take my comments with that in mind.

Last year an eBay seller accepted an offer I made on a PRS in McCartyburst that didn't sell, probably because the pictures showed the guitar as red on the treble side and brown on the bass side.

When I asked the seller for additional pics, there was none of the two-tone color present. It was just a fluke picture that mistakenly showed red on one side and brown on the other side. I'm not sure how it happened on the posted pics and none of the others he sent.

When I received the guitar, both sides matched perfectly, and I've never seen the difference that was in the original pictures in person or any other pictures I've taken of the guitar.

Not saying that is so with the guitar in this post, and it sure does look like it is poorly matched. We all know how hard it is to get accurate photos sometimes, however.

One example out of thousands and thousands made = a quality problem at PRS? Come on... thats a HUGE reach that really makes Gibson look bad as a result.

Every mfg has its problems but pointing to another builder to justify your own issues is not a persuasive argument

What I find strange about the PRS is that the center piece is not "centered". That's what makes it look funny to me.
