• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Another cheap, unhip tone monster

As Big Al stated in his thread, we guitar players love to chase our tone through cool vintage and boutique pieces. I've definitely fallen down that rabbit hole myself but I eventually learned that sometimes the simple little right off the rack budget amps have killer tone too. One of my favorite around the house jamming amps is the lowly Peavey Delta Blues. The Peavey classic series amps are such great players. I ignored them for years and when I finally gave one a try I was floored at how good it sounded. I stuck a nice '50s RCA black plate in V1 and a RCA gray plate in V2 of mine and man did that amp come to life. It LOVES pedals too. Here's a short little clip I made with mine this past Friday running a CV Tele and a EHX Soul Food into the dirty channel.

They're a lot of amp for the $300 or so bucks they go for used. The clean tone is excellent too. Not like a Fender. It's got it's own thing but it's a good thing.

My favorite Peavy's. Real deal vintage California tone. 15" speaker, cool reverb and deep tremolo make for vibey blues and Americana applications. Way overlooked model and a steal on the used market.

I like the Delta Blues....it goes into some extreme gain,, as well as doing fine cleans. IT is very loosely related to the 5F6A Fender Bassman world with regard to placement of the tone stack in relation to the gain stages.....as are a great number of modern amps....like the Fender Blues/Hot Rod amps.

Al, I thought they'd be more "Mississippi-like" or even east Texas/Golden Triangle. I've worked on a couple of these in my shop for guys and they are probably the best sounding amp Hartley's made for da Bluez. I wonder if Billy G owns one?

I had the 50 watt head and 1x15 cab back in the day, never should've sold that one. :rolleyes

Still tempted to replace with a combo.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone say they had one years ago and sold it or "traded up to a Fender" only to wish they had held on to it because the resale money isn't worth giving it up. That's one of the things that convinced me to buy one. I've spent triple what I paid for this a few times and those amps weren't nearly as easy to dial in or as usable at all volumes as this thing is.
