• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Yep I remember them and still listen to their stuff, have quite a bit of it on my IPod. I think Andy Latimer is a very fine guitarist, a bit like Jan Akkermann I guess..

Thanks for the link..

Cheers! :salude

Oh, yeah, I love Camel. I've been listening to them since the mid-'70s. Asymetrical rhythms were big with them.

Andy Latimer - that name has been mentioned here once in a while. GREAT tone, and choice of notes. Even with a LP copy.....

I would say that Jan Akkerman has a radically different style from Andy though....

After years of wrangling with a record company gone bad, Andy was able to go wring rights to his material back and take Camel independent. Andy moved for a few years to California and under the umbrella of Camel Productions released several excellent albums and videos. He married lyricist Susan Hoover, who supplied lyrics for Camel compositions from the late '70s onwards. Camel keyboardist and close friend Pete Bardens recently died of cancer. Andy has recently moved back to England, where he's linked back up with the former members of Camel and is getting reestablished in the music scene.

Mr. Womak, thanks incredibly much for that info - so sad to hear about Pete Bardens. Man, that was a real "feel-good" group for me a bass player (at the time) into prog rock, especially the more melody-based types - which I always thought they excelled at. Focus was that way in many regards - both Andy and Jan still floor me, and I remember seeing Jan at Musikmesse in 1997 or 98 and he is still on top of his game big time.

More f***ing power to them all. Never got as much respect as they should have.

Oh, and Andy, if you're out there...

F***ing thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing me emotion in subtlety. Oh and great tone. That's what made me go for Lesters in the first place.

A live DVD just came out called Total Pressure...performances from '84, including a cameo by Peter Bardens.

Never heard of them but their music sounds great. I like their style. Good guitarist, he has a lot of taste in his playing.

I'll have to find one of them!!

I wonder how the gtr player had his amps set up? seperate rig for the strat & LP?

I saw an AC15, SF twin back there, what else was he using?

Yep. a MiniMoog. Their oscillators were really drifty unless you had a mod done on them. Moog has recreated the Mini as a digitally controlled analog synth (the Voyager) that is about as close to the original as you could get. Moog Rick Wakeman is using them.

I'll have to find one of them!!
Good luck! They are becoming about as prized as early '60s ES335s. As they age, they need to be rebuilt. They are out there, however. A friend owns his original that has been rebuilt and moded. If I find that particular dream, it'll probably be in the form of a Voyager.

Can't help you there... He was never in the mags I read. Sounded like Fender on the LP. He now travels with a rig containing two Super Reverbs.
