• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Anyone tried Zhangbucker's lately?

Any new reviews (or old followups) to report on? I'm talking to Dave now about a possible order.

I have a couple of sets of the PHW Duane/Pageys & they rock! I have a pair of the mini PAF's in one of my old epiphones. The Zhangs are killer pickups! I currently have a pair in my 1959 ES355. I have a Duanebucker in the bridge & its pretty hot, but whatever he does with the PHW, it keeps them very chimey! Through a non master volume head, just roll back the guitar volume & you get sparkley jangle! open that volume back up again & they are perfect for rock! :dude:

I just got a G-0 that had Wolfetone, Dr Vintage in it. It sounded killer but the owner kept them. So, I put in a set of Zhangs that I've had for a few yrs. and they sound just as good. I also tried old T tops and some other boutique pup's which just didn't measure upto the Zhangs or Dr. Vintage.
The Zhangs I have were hand wound with A 2 magnets.
No need to lay out huge amounts of $ for great sounding pup's .

Well, I've got a Wolfetone Legends Bridge in there now which is good...but just ordered a PHW Pagey 2. Should be a good matchup! Any forethoughts on which will come out on top? Both are in the 8.5-8.8k range, A2.

It will depend on your style of playing, the guitar and how it relates to the pup's and what tone shades you're wanting.
Don't overlook a really pro set up either. You know, new nut, bridge saddle slots and fret dressing.

I'm good to go there, I've had this particular LP Goldtop since '07...there's not much else to improve on. The whole PHW is just something I've got to try for myself.

Have a Duanebucker and Pagey II about a couple years old - regular machine wound. I think they sound fantastic. I'm waiting on a tele pickup from him now.

Kap'n, are both bridge pickups or ???

Which do you happen to like better, any comparison comments on those two winds?

Pagey II is the neck, Duanebucker (A IV) is in the bridge. It's a nice match for the instrument, which is a Korina slabbody. I'd probably be ordering a set of PHW for my Standard as soon as I figure out what exactly I want for that instrument.

I have two PH sets, one T-bucker, the other woodbucker bridge/Pagey II neck. I can't make a fair comparison since one is in an SG and the other in a LP, but I love both of them. Something that keeps surprising me is how big and creamy the T-buckers can still sound. The LP they're in is a warm-sounding instrument, but still. I was a bit worried about them sounding too thin, but that turned out to be unnecessary.
