• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Anything good to say about WGS Speakers???

I read some decent reviews on other forums, anyone here got something to say?

I'm also interested in opinions.

I bought a lightly used G10C for a Princeton Reverb build. I'll report back in a couple weeks.

I've only tried their version of the vintage 30 - it was good, a little warmer than the celestions

I've tried the ET65, Vet30, Retro 30, Reaper HP, G12C, Green Beret, Invader 50 and Blackhawk 50 alnico. My faves were the GB, Retro 30, Reaper HP..but by far the BH50 alnico was the best. I prefer any of those four to the Celestions but again, the BH50 is their best speaker IMO.

But, in the end I didn't stick with any of them...Scumbacks for me.

Scumbacks for me.

I'd prefer those too, but they're 3x the price. If I had a particular tone I simply had to replicate I'd drop the cash. As a hack and incessant fiddler, I like the thought that I won't blow a $260 dollars speaker if I stretch it out occasionally.

WGS speakers average $80+shipping ~ $100.

Weber Legacy's (original Scumbacks) are $120+shipping ~ $137 (last one I bought.)

So $37 more/speaker for just about the best tone I've personally had/heard with my rig is a no brainer. 37% more, not 300% as you mention. Just sayin' that "Scumback" tone is available to most for a relatively small "upcharge". Something to think about.

This was the beasty I was looking at.

Scumback

Alnico's are insanely expensive nowadays. While I really like British voiced Alnico's I've cooled on British style ceramic's, or at least anything that is trying to replicate the old Greenback's. Maybe it's a sign of age, but I tend to like my ferrite speakers voiced American.

I personally think the Vet30/ET65 combo that I put into my Bogner OS2x12 is the best combo I have ever used for classic rock with a Marshall like amp.:dude: Great speakers , great pricing, great service.
