• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Are CS-336's neck heavy?

I'm considering buying a CS-336, new or used. One concern is whether the guitar is neck heavy. I can't stand playing an SG for this very reason. Please let me know your experiences. (Also if you know of any pre-owned figure tops...) Thanks!

Can't say on the 336 specifically but I do know that my 356 is NOT neck heavy at all. It is very well balanced (nothing like an SG - they bug me too). I've seen a few good deals on eBay. Also, talk to our forum dealers and let them know to call you should something pass their way. Good luck...

It took me a long time to get used to an SG too, so I know how you feel about them.

However, the 336 feels instantly comfortable & balanced, to anyone used to a LesPaul.
In general, the 336 necks are smaller than R8's and R9's, but that's a matter of taste.
Overall a great guitar.

Mine's not either. It's very comfortable to wear & play.

I've owned 5 356's and still own 2 of those and one 336, which I sold. None were neck heavy. All felt balanced to me.

My CS356F has a HUGE neck and is not at all neck-heavy. As others have stated, it is a very balanced instrument.

The one piece mahogany carved back/sides no doubt have a positive effect on it's overall ergonomic comfort while playing seated or standing up, and resistance to neck-dropping.

I don't find mine neck heavy at all either. Considering the increased body size by 335 does *feel* a little heavier in the neck, tho that might just be all in my head. The 336 is pretty much perfectly balanced for me (and yes, I don't get on with SGs for the same reason).

Except for those like my CS356CA, a Music machine Stinger with a '50s neck:

Yes, overall, a great axe.
