• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Are the R7 Faded Cherry Customs rare?

I posted a few topics on the (03) R7 Custom that I just picked up and wanted to see more pics of other faded Cherry Customs. Other than George's, it appears that maybe there are not too many on this forum or sold. I had also asked a while back for a price check to make sure I wasn't spending to much $ on it. No answers. Are these guitars taboo?

What say you? Is there a limited amount of people wanting a faded cherry Les Paul Custom? Is it the fact that Black is the more excepted color for LPC? I know that the Les Paul Standard is king, but I would have thought an all mahogany Lester like the 50's Customs would have been at least a little tempting to some of you.

I won't put mine up. But the last guys to get one (publically at least..) are you, EE and myself.

The guitars are NOT taboo. There were only 3 that I am aware of that were actually made between 1959 and 1960. I know EE mentioned he saw one in person.

To answer your question they are rare and many of them have lost their red luster. Just like the 50's LPs. People complained the bursts faded... Same thing with historics.

Thanks for the reply. I am surprise and not surprised all at the same time. As you said, mine has turned almost completey brown on the top. I really enjoy the two pickup Customs and grabbed this to be a little different. I guess I just did not know how different!

Hmmmmm Carmen..... Yummmmm..

:dude:

Joe - love your faded cherry R7 Custom. Awesome guitar! I think the thing is that they are just so rare that there is not much discussion trading around about them since nobody's got one. Nobody except you, and Elliot and George.

I'll have a sweet cherry R8 pretty soon though!! :headbange

Thanks Andy. I appreciate hearing that from you. BTW: I love the sweet cherry guitar! Your's is awesome!

And of course the R7 I was talking about:

I guess I will pimp it one more time. I was really hoping that others had some too. But, what the heck , it is a killer guitar just the same. 2003 seems to be a pretty good Historic year too, so double bonus for me.

I have a hard time playing 3 pup guitars. Never really acquired the appreciation for them. My first LP was a 68 custom back in the 70's. It was awesome. I always wanted another. This one is a little different due to the Mahogany, but it is still an awesome.
