• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Are the Studios any good?

I might buy a cheaper LP for a "beater". One I can leave out at home, or take to a jam and not worry about so much.
I've read that some LP copies are actually better than the Gibson Studios. The Epi Elitist for one.
Theres a couple nice Studios around here for sale. Whats your opinion?

I had a Studio for 3-4 years, in Ebony, chrome hardware and 490/498 pickups. I've been really happy with it, no issues at all and sold it to get an SG Standard... then a LP Standard Faded.

Studios are great!

Early to Mid 90's Studios are great. I used one for years as my main gigging guitar. :)

I adore Studios. THe only guitar I ever regretted selling was a '94 Studio in Wine Red. I missed it so much I just picked up a '96 Studio in Wine Red to replace it!!! Funny, I don't miss the PRS that was the original Studio's replacement at all....

I have two Studios, a Custom and two Standards and my favorite is my white 97 Studio. My sound engineer says it's the most "Les Paully" sounding Les Paul I own. It also happens to be the best playing LP I've ever touched.

I have a satin mahogany Studio that plays and sounds very nice. I use it as well for jams and leave my R9's at home when going to jams so that I don't have to say "No" to anyone who may ask to play one of my R9's.
The Studios are all different just as any other guitar is. Since they are in such great abundance, take your time searching one out. If you find one you like, it will serve you well.

I dig mine... 1986 LP Studio w/ Shaw pups.

Except for the dot inlays and the decal on the headstock,
it's more of a Standard...

I have had three studios and currently have a 1992 studio in wine red with an ebony board and I love it. I also have a 1981 custom and the studio holds it's own against it. You can't go wrong with a studio.

I too, use my Studio more than I use all of Crusher's guitars combined. Er... yeah!

In alll seriousness, a Studio can be a great guitar. Standard profile, maple cap, american hardware and assembly, ain't nothing missing.

Beautiful Studios guys...I love you guys.

I played mine again last night...the guitar just absolutely rips. So much so, I'm having a hard time playing my R7. One more time to the guitar tech today to try and take some ice out of the Burstbuckers. One more try and then I'm ripping them out.

In the meantime...I'll continue to smoke the Studio.

I had one like this (above) and it was an exceptional guitar. Like said it was almost a Standard. Sorry to go against the grain here but, I had a mid 90s studio that I got for cost ($320. A friend worked in a store)... It was a total dog. The fingerboard was sticky and the fret edges cut into my thumb (seriously... drew blood and everything!). It just didn't feel good at all and the sound was really weak. I kept it for about 3 months and dropped it straight across for an 83 Strat hardtail. I have heard a lot of great reviews about the stidio, but for me the newer ones are "almost" a Les Paul.

Sorry, but just my experience. Wish I still had that 86 model though!

Here's my '94 wine red studio, had it for almost 1 year now and it was the best thing I ever bought :dude

Weighs in at 8.5lbs and has a wicked tone.

And here's one of it on my bed with no pickguard and my dog Pip :)
I've since changed the volume/tone control knobs to gold speedknobs and it looks awesome.

I like mine. '03 Alpine White with:

Armstrong pups (bridge splits via push/pull tone pot)
Matched CTS pots
Lightweight tailpiece
Schaller strap locks
Schaller gold metal selector washer
Schaller gold metal TRC
Tortoise shell pickguard
Gold tophats with discs and pointer washers

Even without the tweaks, it was a fine instrument.
