Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
I love the patina of old violins. I wondered if anyone has tried this on a Lester? I don't mean a nitro violin burst, but the same violin varnish/oil that they use?
I would also like to make little changes to my guitar, to varnish it like a violin. My son, who is 12 years old, is learning the violin. I have recently purchased him, reading about Antonio Strad Violin reviews, a new violin. This is a handmade violin of well-aged wood. Oh yes, it will look gorgeous if the Lester guitar had the same finish of the wood. Fantastic!

I also like it because it makes the instrument look so much cooler and even older than it is. I saw nice patina made not only on violins but on old guitars and Double basses too.
I don’t know why but it can appear even on new and beautiful professional violins I’ve seen at my friends’ houses. Maybe it is because of the humidity in the air or something like this. I am not a professional and mostly enjoy the looks of it.
Are those patina marks dangerous for the instrument? Do they make it less expensive? I thought about starting a collection of old violins.
No factory LPs that I am aware of, but Fender has one. http://www.fendercustomshop.com/gui...-with-ebony-fingerboard-aged-antique-natural/
made from wood from the same forest that Stradaveri used and (obviously) designed to mimic them. I think initial retail price was $25k but they came out right at the beginning of the pandemic and did not get much press.
Edit--certainly would not be much effort to get a LP and have it refinished. (I would likely shoot for one of the "ES Les Pauls" that have f holes or go with a 335 style guitar The Gibson Midtown (LP sized 335 shape) could be a contender and they are not overvalued currently--can be purchased in the $1500-2k range or less. But it is not going to be MY guitar and you get to pick! Probably could get one and have it refinished to look like a violin for under $2k total
Edit 2--one trick there is to buy a guitar and have it shipped directly to the refinisher. Saves you some on shipping costs.
