• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I can’t be the only person here who plays bass. We discuss guitar amps all the time(of course) but I don’t recall seeing much about bass amps. In fact It didn’t occur to me to recommend the bass amp I bought earlier this year until just now. I bought a Phil Jones Bass BG-75 from my favorite guitar shop. I was dumbstruck by the amount of low end that was coming from this tiny little box! How can something with a pair of 4” speakers vibrate your pants leg? It’s got a nice punchy tone to go along with the lows too. At only 70 watts it’s not super loud but it’l get your attention. It has more than enough volume for the way I use it. I’m a one person, studio only guy. I love the way it sounds through an LDC. I’ve also re-amped it to blend it with a bass amp sim. Really nice results! In case it matters to anyone I play a Sire 5 string Jazz Bass with the Marcus Miller pickups. I hope someone finds this helpful. Cheers!

Bass has gone to incredible places.

What they are doing with the speakers is mind boggling compared to my younger days.

I use an old Fender Bassman type sometimes, but my go to is this beast.

Bergantino B-Amp with the Halo 3D cab. B&G Big Sister and Elrick EVO4.

Wow! That spalted maple is beautiful. I’ve had a “thing” for Les Paul style basses since I saw Meshell Ndegeocello playing one in the John Mellencamp “Wild Nights” video.

It is the cats ass.

They discounted it for me because nobody picked that blank.

It is now on their website as a model...

And one of David Bowie's bassists told me to call if I ever sell it.

Passive F Jazz style pickups.

More pics...

The 15 inch Ampeg fliptop is a goto amp. The Aguilar is another.
I really like the Tech 21 Bass VT deluxe. Small, portable, phantom powered, sounds great, bullet proof.

Ampegs are my wish list because back in the day that was "the sound".

An SVT is just the ultimate.

That and a Hammond B3 with Leslies and I have every thing I need...

Except that thermos and this ashtray.

Yes Meshell is really nice. I met her a while back. We talked about bass and studio stuff. She really is a top player.

Rudys has one of those Bergantinos in there. I should swing by and check it out.

Beautiful bass! I’ve heard those amps are great. I just have no reason to change from my old Ampeg.

I'm all tube nowadays but I'm also not lugging gear to play live anymore.

The last solid state amp I had was one of the new generation fliptops, PF500 I think. It was a killer little amp and was amazed and the tone I got from it. Plust I loved that I could store more cables and tuner in it, so easy to just roll into a bar and set up.

I keep this Gibson Atlas in my bass room, i picked it up just a couple of years ago and it quickly became a go-to. Not only do I like the tone I get with the vintage gibsons, I love that built in pole that allows you to tip it back and angle it like a floor monitor. Gimicky maybe, but its nice to have to sound directed at you.

Going retro, what do you Bass guys think of the Marshall heads like the Super Bass 100 from the '60s, it'd be good to get your thoughts.

Those Fender Rumbles are pretty impressive for gigs, too. I run an Ampeg through a Traynor 6x10” and that works pretty well for what I do around the house.

One of the best live rigs I heard live was a hired gun playing with the Blushing Brides- ‘68 bassman into an A cab Marshall. A real drive to it. Authority.
