• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi all,
in a few days I’ll be getting my hands finally on my 55 Custom. It’s got Sperzels on it so I’ll need something that looks right. No point in paying for originals. It’s a neck repair and neck refinish so would be no point.
Anyone recommend a good set? Are there aged versions out there?

:applaude Very cool! Looking forward to seeing the pictures once you get her!

Here's my new 1955 - I installed this Bigsby with a Vibramate last night - spring too tight so ordered a Reverend Super Soft Spring

Anybody know what strings (guage/Gibson designation) came on these guitars in the 1950s from the factory? Was that the same for the other guitars?

Thanks,

Rich

Not sure Rich, but if I had to guess, I'd say they were Gibson strings and likely "Regular" gauge?

Hard to say for sure...I agree, I guess it would be regular Gibson strings...although there is also a possibility they had flatwounds on them. :hmm
