• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hendrix used his LP Custom on All Along the Watchtower, and House Burning Down on Electric Ladyland. There may have been others but those are 2 songs I know of.

The 50s LP Customs also have Madagascar Ebony boards vs Gaboon. Madagascar has been banned for over a decade and a half. I bought a fretboard of Madagascar from International Luthiers Mercantile 20 years ago, but never used it. I started to use it on a 59 Burst replica I had made in 2015, but decided to just let the builder use Brazilian Rosewood.

When were you there? I was there on Sunday afternoon. It was at the end of the room to left as you walked-in. I'm not sure how much it was selling for? I was going to ask, but the vender was with someone else at the time.

Yeah, that '61, while beautiful and I would love to have one, was crazy money, exactly as you mentioned; because it was Neal Schon's.

I love it!

If I'm not mistaken, I think it was someone here that said Peter Frampton's '54 was chambered? I had never heard that before and I'm not sure if it originally was, or if it was done at the time that Mark Mariana made/had the modifications made to it?

It is amazing that such guitars exist for sure...I'm not too sure on the Frampton guitar, but I wonder what else is out there that we haven't seen/heard of still.

I would agree. Who would've ever thought that there'd be chambering back then? Had to be a special request? Unbeknownst to them at the time, it was the pre-cursor to the Custom Shop.

So this would be a mahogany body with a mahogany top if it's chambered? It would not be one single piece for the body and top?

WERE they usually just one piece originally? Or were they all-mahogany but separate body and top?

And are the reissues just one piece? I bet this latter has been asked before, and if it's been answered I apologise for the repetition.

As far as I know, they were one piece, all mahogany bodies as are the ones that are being produced in the Custom Shop today? I'd like to know for sure myself, so I'd gladly sit being corrected.

That is also my understanding. And that would logically mean, for a LPC to be chambered, Gibson would have to slice the body in two first, and then re-glue them after routing out the chamber(s) I guess?
