Hey Todd!

Don't know about stripping off gold plate. Maybe someone would want to trade their Nickel Bigs for your gold.

Philadelphia Luther supply has those "CUSTOM MADE" plates for twenty bucks. They come with double sided tape instead of brads in case you change your mind or something.

You can send your Bigsby to a plater and have the gold stripped. The silver ones I've had we're bare aluminum with stainless vibrato bars. I don't think you need to nickel plate anything unless you want to.

Ha! You're right. Aluminum, not Nickel. (doh!)

Yeah, you can just have it stripped down to aluminum

The Bigsby B6 on my Gretsch 6120 is polished bare aluminum (no plating)...looks very nice

Ahh so you think a buffing wheel will do it?

Why don't you just sell the gold one and buy the aluminum? They're not expensive and you won't lose much on resale of the gold one, if it's in good shape.

Yep, a plater will do this for you. I have stripped a few Chrome T Top covers in the past to the nickel...it's a 3 minute job. I expect the gold off the Bigsby will be no different.

I have a feeling the Custom Made plaque I got was from Montreux and more like $80...but it's superb in terms of detail, thickness etc

Todd, aluminium wheel cleaner from somewhere like Napa auto parts will strip that plating completely off in no time at all.
It doesn't take much to remove gold...
