• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Borrowed one of my Dad's amps!

My Dad is one of the reason I picked up the guitar. My hat's off to him. He's got great taste in guitars, and amps. Got this one in house for a while. Late 80s/early 90s Fender Dual Showman ("red knob"). I re-tubed her with NOS Sylvania and GE preamp tubes and SED/Winged C 6L6GCs. This amp KICKS A@#!!!!! I spent a while with her tonight with my 96 LP Gem (Peter Florance Voodoo P-90s). This is a GREAT amp!!! The clean channel is traditional Fender cleans - like a Twin. Headroom for days. Big and full. Most of my time was on the drive channel. Lot's of features on this amp. I had her set up for an almost Tweed like drive with my Clark Gainster pushing it. This is an AMAZING amp. The Tone Master replaced her in 1993 (which I also own). Anyone else got one, or one of "The Twin" amps? (I get the nicknames confused with the "Evil Twin"). AMAZING AMPS!!!

When I was at Berklee in the early 90s, most of the guitar classes were loaded up with red-knob fender combos. I thought they'd sound horrible, but they were pretty good.

Yep - it had been a few years since I played through this amp at my folks place. I rememer always liking it - but, wasn't sure what to expect. I was plesently surprised! I DIG IT!!!! BIG and FAT Fender tone! LOUD too. I need the Hot Plate to get the most out of her!

I use to have a Daul Shoman Reverb head from the 70's. Great sounding amp, just way too loud.

I played one of those red-knobbed Twins back in the day...

All I remember was that it was heavy as hell to lug around...
