Visited GC in Boston today..

which always has a special but sad vibe when I go there .. as it was there I passed up on a R6 for $3k with the serial number 6 0606..(called the next day but it was sold)
so I thought I’d go and buy my TH 57 GT a strap, locks and strings to have a full circle moment..
(Unfortunately the book wasn’t for sale)

I get the rubber washers from beer making places. Same thing but a lot cheaper.
They used to be ten cents a piece but like every thing else lately, doubled in price.

The vibe has never been the same since EU Wurlitzer on Newbury and Mass Ave near Berlklee closed. Bought my 1985 MIJ Fender 62 Vintage Reissue Tele there. Always used to pop in on my way to and fro Newbury Comics.

Yup.
I think of the location of GC in Boston as the "new" location.
I remember visiting all the shops in Boston the morning after playing the Middle East or The Rat or any of the multitude of clubs back in the late 1900s.

Yeah, you read that right. The late 1900s. We're getting old.
The downstairs of the Middle East might have been the loudest room I've played - ever. Low ceiling, cement floors, big amps, -- 'twas loud.

Only a Grolsch is good enough.

Play authentic ™!

GC have closed the smaller store opposite Berklee as they wanted the store back for rehearsal rooms.. the larger store near Fenway Park is now well stocked of everything.. as it was piss poor before.. zero branded guitars.. but now stocked and ready to rock..

I remember when GC opened in the late spring/early summer of 1994 over on Comm Ave. At the time there were lots of clubs and good stores in the city. Now, there's Mr. Music and GC.

For a college town you would think there would be more, especially with Berklee, Boston Conservatory, and NE Conservatory.

I remember going to the old Daddy's, LaSalle, and Wurlitzer back when I was small with my dad. Those were the days!

I also thought there would be a lot more independent music shops around the campus too..
..and a few years ago.. as I mentioned .. GC’s stock was really bad.. maybe this was to prevent students blowing their budget on high end instruments 🤔

I met Bo Didley in GC on Brookline Ave., I went to Museum of Fine Arts for the " Art of the Guitar" exposition, it wasn't open yet so my brother in law and I hit the store. I was wearing an orange Gretsch shirt and he called out, " Man, I really dig your shirt" , I replied, " Bo, you don't know Didley" he started laughing and shook my hand, he was the coolest, down to earth guy I ever met!
After GC, we use to hit EU Wurlitzer, Mr. Music in Alston, good old days for sure!

Yeah, when I was in school it was Cambridge Music, Wurlitzer, Daddy's, Sandy's, and for a short time Boston Guitar Works (which had been Brockton Guitar Works) had a store on the corner of Mass Ave and Huntington across from Symphony Hall.

For a short time there was also a very high end store between Newbury and Boylston on one of those small cross streets. IIRC it was the one that Steve's (the Greek place) was on, but I could be wrong. It was almost like a museum, everything was pristine and in glass cases.
