• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What a terrific deal if it is....I guess it's gone by now although the site says it's available. Their website is only refreshed once a day.

The checker says its BRW, but look at that fingerboard. Not like your typical 03 stump...but who cares. Good price for a R9 anyway even without BRW, and if Elderly says it sounds good I believe them.

Man that was a deal. Could you imagine what Dave Johnson could do to bring out that figure and color. Yikes.

Wow, If they are selling it for $3,250, just imagine the how much they low balled the seller when they took it in.

Hey Spicoli!! I've bought guitars from Elderly, and inquired about selling some there also. A few years ago, they were offering about 2/3 of their listed selling price to the owners for most instruments. Rock on Bro!!:2zone

Hey Geno, whats happening!? I just could not imagine selling an 2003 certified Brazilian for around 2k. 55Custom has a point though, but thats still a stupid low price. I hope the guitar went to a forum bro.

Thanks for your input. I have the guitar on hold. Now I need to figure out how to pay for it. I've never handled or owned one of these Brazilian R9's and that's why I wanted to hear what others' thoughts were on this guitar.

This would seem to be a situation where neither Elderly nor the prior owner recognized the significance of the Brazilian fingerboard's impact on the guitar's value.

I'll let you know how things turn out. Thanks again.

I'm glad to hear that you you are the one that put the guitar on hold, rather than somebody else swiping it out from under you while you're here asking questions. You got a deal! I can't believe that Elderly didn't recognize what they have. That guitar is worth twice that much.

PS In the full body photo the flame looks pretty subtle, but I'll bet its got a lot more action in person

You have to remember, this is Elderly...Remember when someone posted here about an '04 Historic that they had advertised as Brazilian and they wouldn't change the description or price even after being notified that it wasn't Brazilian by half the Forum?

Seems like they just get it backwards sometimes...:hmm :lol :rofl

Brown Recluse, nice score! :salude

keef, I feel for 'ya!

Elderly will tell you a broomstick and a rubberband sound good just to make a sale.

With as many discrepancies as we've seen from them here on the Forum, I'm kind of surprised that you'd say that...unless you were joking (didn't notice any smilies though)...

I have dealt with them before as well, so I speak from experience. I won't get into details but let's just say, uh...never again!

Zen - I usually check their acoustic section. What I have noticed is that for most instruments Elderly does not make any claims as how these sound (unlike some other dealers who claim that all of their stuff is the cat's ass). Elderly's claims that an instrument sounds fine - they hardly ever use the word 'excellent' - are certainly not reserved for prewar Martins or other top dollar guitars. Many of those will NOT get that recommendation. So I tend to take their opinion seriously.

It's unfortunate that you have had a bad experience. I am sure there are many people who have a favorable opinion of them though, in spite of the occasional bloopers (name one dealer who is not guilty of this). I know the owner Stan Werbin as a very gracious person who truly loves vintage instruments. End of commercial message (no affiliations etc.)
