• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

That little Tech 21 2 X 12 combo with a Cremeback and a V 30 will actually give you a Marshall tone with ease including JCM and a Plexi.

My little Friedman demon really cannot be compared to a Marshall. It’s better.

I grew up playing Plexis in large venues and small and now I am blown away by a freakin 29 watter the size of a kid’s lunch box.

I'll play!
Blockhead JTM45 clone of the first 40 JTM45s made in 1962. It has the polarity switch and the cut-out in the back to store the power cord.
It isn't as "ice-pick" aggressive as the later (65-70) traditional JTM45s, but it still sounds great!
It rests atop a 1971 B cab loaded with the original green-back T1221 (15Ω) speakers. I had it wired to 3.75Ω and used it with a Mesa Boogie MKIII. It sounded incredible. To better accommodate the ~16Ω Blockhead, I had it wired to either 15Ω or 7.5Ω, I can't remember. I like the 3.75 Ω sound better but it might cause the Blockhead to eventually explode! (Not pictured: road case for the amp.)

I lament the demise of big amps.

How interesting! My 1971 B cab (pictured in post #9) had the same small gold Marshall logo on the grill. I have it stored in a box with other guitar bits. I've not seen too many cabs with the small gold logo. Cool!
(Clearly my cab has the checkerboard grill cloth. A Marshall collector/nut dated my cab to mid/late 1971. I forget the features that indicate that date.)

The T1221s in mine all dated to 4/22/71. It sounds great and works as a natural attenuator for the purple 50-watt. That amp through another 4x12 with reissue Greenbacks needs an attenuator.

Stock by the book build of a GDS 18W replica in a Swanson cab with an M75 Scumback. Still loud, next step is to get an attenuator.B7A55BB3-886C-441F-8CC0-128363E93DA2.jpeg

A Hammond organ amp repurposed into an 18W Marshall circuit. Not quite as loud as the GDS, but will still get your attention. E1676BBC-08D5-41DF-9A8B-442B2DD97382.jpeg5B806C94-1FD3-413E-90E3-5FB1CC4FB17A.jpeg

Here's my 2003 / 2004 Gabi Bucataru (Gabriel) 1974 18 watt replica. Swanson cabinet. Heyboar transformers. Gabi was the admin at the 18 watt Forum back then, and I had him build this beauty for me. This was just as he was starting to build full-time with his new company Gabriel Sound Garage. This was made just before Marshall came out with their 1974x reissue. I added the EC Collins grill cloth later when they came out, and a Celestion 20 watt Heritage G12M when they came out. Has a reissue tremolo pedal too. Vintage tubes as well. Sounds great! (y)

That's when I built mine... GDS kit. I built mine late 2003. Roman Rist built the cab. Was a 2 x 10 then I changed the baffle and put in the 12" 25 Watt greenback.

In the days of my youth, I thought "I have a college degree and there is this thing called the internet...how hard can it be to make an amp?" Turns out it was medium hard! I ended up making two. This one is from back when Metropoulos still did kits and it is a 69 spec superlead...the board is only drilled in the spots where components go so idiots like me can't screw it up...the head case was designed by me but mostly made by my bass player...
