• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

When they get that faded and unburst-y from a medium distance they look like Goldtops.

Agreed! That's why I used to think Paul Kossoff played a goldtop at Isle of Wight and on the Beat Club performances.

Hey guys I am proud to say that I was lucky enough to have owned her from 85 to Nov. 89. when I had to sell her to survive. If anyone or the current owner is interested here is some of its History. It was my first and only real burst. early 60 with all 59 appointments. I got her from George Gruhn hand delivered in my hometown in 85. I had a 58 Explorer that I had bought a yr ealier that I had sent pictures of to Gruhns and Allen Woody worked for George back then. Anyway Allen told me to bring the Explorer down as I told him I was looking for a burst to trade for. At the time they had 2 in stock the 60 at 5500.00 and a darkburst 59 with big tiger flame that he told me had belonged Vic Dapra on cons. for 8500.00. I drove down to Tenn. and we tried to work out a deal to no avail. I wanted the 59 Darkburst even straight up for the Explorer but it didnt work out that way.
I left and we kept in touch for a few months. finally one Fri. afternoon George called and said he was on his way to Chicago and was in my Hometown at a motel at an exit off the freeway. He said he had the 60 and some cash and I needed the money so I drove and got her. She stayed in my home under the bookcase headboard most of the time but late at night and on weekends I would pull her out of the case and admire it for hrs. the top was checked to hell but it dont show up in most photos. It did have some very very minor issues. The tuners had been changed like alot of burst to grovers but klusons were back on except they were earlier no name klusons. I sold it to a dealer in OH and he in turn sold it. The last I heard from it was yrs ago it was at Sunrise music. I called and talked to the owner who has since passed away and he had ask me if I had realized it had double whites and I told him sadly I did not. I know it went to Japan so I dont know if it retuned to the States or not.

I have several old pics of it but they are kinda dark and dated. I had a good friend in a band named Stalker get up and play it onstage one night at a local bar in the late 80's. they covered Free's Allright now and I swear to you that guitar sounded identical to the one Kossoff used to record the song with. I still have the certificate Goerge gave me with the guitar and he or whoever typed it put 0 6303 as the 2nd 0 looked like a 6 but we all know it was 0 0303.

here are some dated photos. notice the black leather converse

Hey burstman59... do you want to sell one of your 157 stop tails?

your kidding right? those stoptails arent the real thing instead they are some lightweight aged ones I bought at last yrs Summer Jamm auction. I've sold over half of them.
