• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Old post bump: I was trying to answer my own curiosity / query having just put up first post, in the Custom Shop section. If I've got good info from reading threads / searching this place; this BUrst was indeed nicely repaired and eventually found it's way into some rather capable hands......i.e. Mark Knopfler.

Just bumping this thread for any other MK tone nuts who may go a-searching like I just have.)

Yeap, love MK and him playing the '58. So, this is the one? It seems to have faded more to a hang tag shadow these days then? Or maybe it's just the pic that makes it seem more uniform than it is?

Watching "A night in London" when I was a kid was a big part of my love of Les Pauls actually.

F&^%!!! Every time I see a desecration like that I think of the Japanese buyers and how, for the most part, they've really taken care of the old bursts they've bought. I remember, many years ago when the yen was strong vs the dollar, hearing some guys say, "Frickin' japs, buyin' all our cool guitars! It ain't right, man!" Yeah, well, at least they weren't DRILLING F&^%KING HOLES IN THEM. Or chopping out a hole for a Floyd or some other damn thing.

I lusted after an LP for years before I could afford one and it drove me nuts to see guys taking never to be completely replicated guitars and trying to turn them into Kramers.

Okay, I'm calming down now. :) :jim
Is that a Guild pickup? I remember Guild electrics having those pickup covers back in the 70s and 80s

Looks familiar- my '58 (since restored) once had roland guitar synth brains built into it- with three extra knobs and a BIG control cavity... =(
one time i bought a cheapo 335 copy for $35 and it had a big hole cut into the back and the guts of a stompbox stuffed in there for boost, when i was leaving he said he still had the case for the stompbox i could have for another 5 dollars.....ts808
