• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is there a go to reference for 1953 1960 Les Pauls. I already have "The Beauty of the Burst" but after buying and reading "The Black Guard" By Natcho Banos, an absolutely superb book about 1950-1954 Telecasters, I wish there was something similar for Les Pauls. If you have not seen the Black Guard it's hard to describe how good a book about a guitar can be. Many excellent photos, history, parts dimensions etc. Granted I paid nearly $90.00 for "the Black Guard" but would not hesitate to pay $150.00 for a book that went into as much detail about the !953 - 1960 Gibson Les Paul. Thanks

I've wanted something like this too. In fact, if they brought out a version of Beauty of the Burst focussed solely on documenting '57-'58 humbuckerd Goldtops I'd buy it.

The short answer is "no", it doesn't yet exist. It's a huge undertaking that could easily take 2-3 years time and a lot of cash to produce. At the moment, the guys who are qualified to author such a book are not willing to invest the time and money it would take to do so. Although many here would purchase it, the economics just don't seem to make sense.

Rob Lawrence has a good book on early LPs, but nothing compares to The Blackguard book by Nacho Banos.:salude
