• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Burstbucker Pros in a Strat?

I've got three single coil Fenders and only one humbucker Gibson :( wah.

I replaced my BB pros in my LP with Classic 57s, but I liked the BBs, and I wouldn't mind putting them to use in one of my Strats.

Anyone ever used the BBs in a Fender?

I had a Fender Strat with a Bill Lawrence HB in it. This was the early 80's, Eddie Van Halen craze.

It would be cool to see how a set of BBs would sound in a Custom Shop '60 Strat reissue. If you do it, post a vid so we can hear it.

I would the string spacing would be an issue. I recall reading an article when Eddie Van Halen stuck a PAF humbucker (from an old ES-335?) into his Frankenstrat he had install it tilted otherwise the pickup polepieces wouldn't line up with the strings.

That makes sense. I've seen a few on youtube in the meantime. Don't know what these guys did about it; didn't seem to matter in one case, in the other too hard to tell.

Oh....what you said!

Thing is, I need a backup with humbuckers, and I've got two Strats, one that I'd never touch and one that sounds great but I don't mind trying something new with.

Why is it you don't touch the one Strat? If it's not as good as your main one, then routing it out for humbuckings may not give you what you're wanting to get from it.
Just sayin....

I won't go as far as routing. The Strat is already routed HSH.

I am not trying to make my Strat sound like a Les Paul, not interested in that. I'm just curious as to whether anyone had tried BBs in Strat. I've seen The Eagles' hired hand playing a Strat with two humbuckers.

My main Strat is an AmStd with 57/62 pickups and has the vintage type sounds that I've always wanted from a Strat, so I wouldn't touch it.

I have a second AmStd Strat with stock pups. I like them a lot, but I prefer the main Strat. So this second one is up for a bit of experimentation. Again, I will not rout a grain of the guitar. Won't need to if the humbucker routings are deep enough.

Just watched a vid on another forum of a guy who put BBs in a Strat. Of course it doesn't sound like a Les Paul, but those pups sound great in the Strat.

I think I will--as soon as I can get to Memphis to Martin Music, who does great work. I am a klutz and cannot solder without messing up.
