• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello everyone. I'm looking for some speaker recommendations. My config is going to be two stacked closed back 2x12 cabs (Birch plywood w/Pine baffles at this point) with either a Morgan MVP66, Marshall Vintage Modern 2266, or a Germino Classic 45. I'm open to any brand recommendations, and multiple speaker models/configurations (criss-cross especially). Also, any wiring and/porting recommendations are certainly welcome. I'm using two cabs because while I prefer a 4x12, I would like the "portability" of a single 2x12 for small affairs or whatnot. I'm a blues/blues-rock player. I prefer guitar-cable-amp connection (no pedals), and guitar volume "boost" and "clean". Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you want to go the alnico way I'd get 4 x Celestion Rubys for your set up, other than that 4 x G12M25s(and if you can find some of the G12Cs even better).
All the best with the hunting (y)

Maybe a convertible option or full open for one of the cabs.

I have a pair of late 70"s Celestion blackbacks in a 2x12 cab similar to the one you described- it has either an open (which I tend to use more) or closed back option (Avatar). It is manageable and has a bit of extra depth that seems to get that mojo workin'.
They are out there (vintage speakers) and are real work horses. Check around.

Once upon a time, pairing up speakers was a favorite pastime around here. If I had a chance to buy 4 speakers, I wouldn't buy 4 of the same model.

And I'd have an open cab on top of a closed cab.

So, two speakers known to combine for that '3D effect' on top and a pair of tight bottomed speakers in the closed cab.
