I just went to the Gibson site to check out whether they have finished updating it.
Just out of curiosity, I looked for the CS-336/356 series and could not find it listed.

Does anyone know if that series has been discontinued?
Thank you.

I had noticed that they were not on the website, too. I hope they are not discontinued because I really like these guitars and want to buy one when I am able to.

I sent an email to Gibson Customer Service asking if these guitars were still in production. I will post their response here when I receive it.

My guess is, they just don't have them up on the website yet.

Cheers,:salude

I received a response from Gibson Customer Service. Sounds like the 336s and 356s may only be special order guitars now. I'm not sure if that is new or if it has been like this for a while, but I have seen them in stores from time to time. I am going to email Gibson back to try to get some clarification.

My email:

Hi,

I was just looking over your new website and could not find the CS-336 or CS-356 listed. Are these guitars still being made, or have they been discontinued for 2009? Perhaps the website is just not complete yet. I hope they are not discontinued, as I have been looking forward to buying a CS-356 in the near future.

Thank you for any information,
John

Gibson's Response:

Hi John,

Thanks for the email. The CS-336 and CS-356 are indeed still available for order through Authorized Gibson Custom Shop dealers, www.gibson.com/dealers . The new website is currently being updates with more information on models. Thanks again!!

I was curious too because I seemed to recall receiving paperwork listing Nashville as the place of origin for my guitar (CS 356). And then with all of the recent back and forth regarding 335s, I was wondering. I was not able to find a listing of the CS 356 on the Custom Shop site either.

So is Nashville correct for the CS 356.

Yes, Nashville is the only place the 3X6's are/were originally built.
I guess I might hold onto mine for awhile as it is the last of 6 I owned with a 59 neck profile, and it sounds amazing.

I guess the lammed 3x5's are more popular?!

OK, I received another reply from Gibson Customer Service this morning. From this response, it sounds like the 3x6s are still being made in regular production. I guess his wording on the original email was just a bit confusing. Hope this helps resolve any confusion.

My email:
Thanks for the response. For clarification, are these guitars still part of normal production and will I continue to see new ones at stores? Or will I have to special order one when I am ready to buy?

Gibson's Response:
Thanks for the reply. Yes, they are in standard production, so you may see them at Authorized Gibson Dealers. Thanks!

Thanks for that C-4.

And if you need someone to baby sit the '59 profile, I'd enjoy that. Only complaint I have with mine is the slim neck, but it plays and sounds great so I am coming 'round to like it. :)
