Case for my SG?

I've got a '73 SG with the original rectangular hardshell case. The case is a POS (very poor design + years taking it's toll on latches, etc.), and I fear for my guitar every time I take it out of the house....

I've found the following cases online:

*Epiphone SG case, approx $49
*MF SG Case, approx $59
*Gibson SG case, approx. $99

Anybody have any experience with these cases? Is the Epi a good buy at half the cost of the Gibson case? Are they the same case, and am I paying $50 for the Gibson logo? Is the MF case decent?

So many questions...

I'm not doing any heavy touring, just bar gigs in and around my hometown. So I don't really need a flight case, just something to protect my guitar while it rides in the car...

Thanks,

Stratbuster

Thanks for the suggestion. The SKB clocks in around $85 - $90, which is less than the Gibson but more than the Epi and the MF.

The Epi does sound flimsier. There were a couple of not-so-glowing reviews on the MF website, if I'm remembering correctly.

I have a '61 SG RI I bought last year, don't know if it's dimensionally the same as your '73.

I bought mine used, and the guitar had been owned by a heavy smoker who had attempted to cover up the smell by spraying some sort of perfume in the case. Tried everything to get the sickening perfume smell out - Febreze, baking soda, sunshine, soap and water, nothing worked.

So I broke down and bought the MF case for $49. It didn't fit, and was very poorly constructed. The padding lacked any density, thin foam rubber. Don't even bother with it.

Then I grit my teeth and bought the Gibson case for $99. Other than the thin textured vinyl covering and the cheezy "shroud", it's a nice case, way ahead of the MF case. Black with gray interior, great neck support, dense padding, and fits perfectly.

While I don't buy new Gibson anything since their new Internet policy, don't go cheap on the case for a '73 SG. Get a Gibson, SKB, TKL, or one of the old plastic Gibson "Protector" cases off Ebay, they're great.
