Does anyone know when Gibson changed from the coarse style knurled switch mounting ring to the finer one? Slightly off topic (apologies moderators) but I've just got an Historic SG Special and I want to know which one would be vintage accurate. How late were the coarse ones used on Gibsons in general? Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know when it was that the knurled nut was changed from coarse to fine knurls. But I don't believe Gibson were the ones who changed them. I'm pretty sure the knurled nuts came with the switch, so it was Switchcraft that changed them, not Gibson. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

There were many different switch nuts used on LP's from '52-60, with no clear dates. The earliest ones were very fine knurling, with many varieties of coarser knurl coming in at some point. Coarser ones persisted into the early 60's on sg's, etc.

Thanks guys. It looks like I can put a coarse one on without OCD causing me too much loss of sleep. ;-)
