• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Checking or no checking???.....

You guys have more jam than I do. We've had a few -30 days here, but I'd be scared to leave my guitar in the trunk. I'd worry something else might happen. Bonus in that weather, you never have to worry about anyone stealing anything.
:hmm
'course, my '74 Custom has great checking, so I do toy with the idea of checking the R9.

I've tried to practice on my nitro finished partso-strat but it won't check for nothin... (lows just below freezing - bringing it inside to the hot air from the pellet stove = nothin but a cold guitar).

I wouldn't dare with a $4K guitar

I really can't understand this... people want vintage cars that look brand new and vintage guitars that look like they were played by a pig. Oh well...

I don't think you need to worry, Don. I haven't heard of anyone meeting with disaster as a result of freezing an R9. :salude HOWEVER- I have frozen and baked mine with the knowledge that I might do damage, and I was willing to take the risk. :spabout
Freezing (and baking) do have some risk, so as with investing, don't go there unless you're willing to accept that the results aren't guaranteed.

In addition to being a fine instrument, my R9 is a science project- I've changed pickups, caps and pots, tuners, strings, bridges, tailpieces and more in addition to attempting to cure, fade, and check the finish:jim

So I just picked up this 05 R9 faded tobacco burst in a trade deal. It once belonged to another forum member here. Anyway, it has light aging on the parts and has other upgrades such as Buzzy inlays etc. It is perfect checking weather up here in Canada and I am debating whether or not to check the guitar. What say you?

I know this guitar! I am pretty sure I sold it to your friend in canada. Awesome top on that one, I remembered it right away. Congratulations!

I probably just have the person I sold it to mixed up. It sure looks like it to me, but anyway the point is/was to say congrats on the nice axe!
