• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

That's possibly the '60......certainly the right cherry sunburst....can't remember if it's been sold at auction since then or if EC's still got it?

Yes its a '60. It's existence makes for some curiosity since it didn't make into any of the three auctions in '99, '04 or '11. He said that most of the guitars he held back in '99 went into the '04 auction, did he keep it?

He's talked about it in interviews, appears it was purchased in the 80's. No indication whether he still has it or if he sold it outside of the auctions, and if so why? Not like he needs the cash.

There's a great pic in post #6 here:

Thanks! W/o serial number, its impossible to say for sure but, my best guess is that it is the '60. The headstock seems a bit gnarly.

After watching that clip again I realized 2004 is flashed during that scene. Plus Derek Trucks and the haircut are give away :) So That's the most recent sighting of it that I'm aware of, assuming its the same guitar. It's too early to be a Beano reissue unless its a very early proto?

Looks like he kept it. You gotta wonder why that one since all the significant, and valuable vintage Martins, etc got sold at auction. Guess he really likes it.

I kinda want Clapton to go back to playing a 'burst!

Given that he sold most of his collection in those auctions it is surprising he kept such a guitar as a '60 Les Paul. He sold his main Strats and some guitars that he must have had an emotional attachment to (his red Gibson 335). He sold rare Martins. Vintage amps. Custom guitars made for him. In short, just about all he had. But NOT EVERYTHING. He said he kept a few things he enjoyed playing, and did not do so based on monetary value.

I think one of the the things that led him to sell his vintage holdings is that he felt many of the guitars made today sound fantastic and meet his needs on stage and in the studio. We are seeing some great instruments made these days (and at prices most gigging musicians can afford).

I am not sure I could do what he did but I really respect a guy who would do that to help others.

Now that should be his main guitar. Looks like Beano to me. Just kidding. But it could be? no just kidding, maybe? i will stop.
I think this is the same guitar?

No you're right it's not the beanoburst.
I'd say that this is the same LP in your clip.
I remember seeing(got it in a mag somewhere) a pic of him with it in '91 and was flabbergasted as I'd not seen him with a LP since the late '60s(the Custom). In that pic he had his 'Journeyman' hairstyle.

Interesting that it appears to have Grovers. He must like the sound of Grovered LP's.

The red 335 got Grovers too (Schallers later). The 335 he is playing now looks like it has original Klusons
