• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Mr. Clapton can have and voice any opinion he may have, just like you. You don’t have to listen if you don’t want to.

I can also have and voice the opinion that anyone who says that people of colour should be removed from my country is a racist and a terrible person.

his opinions are sadly, not unique, nor respectable. anyone with views like those should be publicly humiliated.

You are hereby appointed, chief pillory operant. Since his views seemingly conflict with yours, his are henceforth, by decree, of no significance to the assembled forum members.

You should fit in well with the ubiquitous cancellors of the world.

Why is this hitting a nerve, Doc? All you are doing is trying to bully someone for their views.

I don't know Eric personally and have never been a fan. All I know about his views is what he has expressed.

Well, Pat, I guess it’s likely the culmination of ‘the world’ we’ve come to know. I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about someone’s admonishment of Clapton on nearly any other subject in the past.

I just find it particularly grating here, on a guitar forum, where we laud the guitars and our heroes who play(ed) them with regularity. (especially, this gent) And obviously, the contentious subject of the pandemic, vaccines, et al and how, almost devoid of any previous reverence, if you’re not simpatico with someone’s view, you can, and will be, relegated to the dustbin of history. Just like that. A lifetime of achievement erased. Again, just like that.

It’s a horrendous place we find ourselves in at this point in human evolution. I think we all could take a step back, stop pigeonholing everyone on the planet into one of two catagories, based on some really effed up and confused govt run medical idea of what’s best for the masses. All while stifling the very individuality that created the geniuses we’ve come to love and appreciate in the first place.

One man’s opinion...

No one is erasing anything, holy hell. There's a loud crowd of folks who don't like the dude's opinions and I say live and let live....let them protest.

Many of my biggest musical & arts heroes were **** people in one or more facets of their lives... The people who want to use personal character flaws to decide what art to appreciate better start doing some research cause every generation is up to things the next generation considers inhumane. It's not an absolute, but people who were messed up by age 12 often find themselves capable of intense focus/distraction in the creative world to escape the real world. Now, others are wonderful humans as well. You can dislike the human but appreciate their creations at the same time.

I beg to ‘diffa, suh.’ Some would like nothing more than to ERASE the likes of Clapton, Jefferson, Washington, Churchill and on and on. But maybe you’re right, as to whether they actually can, that remains to be seen.

As for the rest of your observation, I think we indeed share some common ground!

I don't know if Eric Clapton is a US citizen, but if he were, I bet he would vote for Trump and not Biden.
Clapton also struck me as a Reagan supporter.
It's the same thing with Ted Nugent. The guys a great guitar player, sadly his political views prevent him from being taken seriously.

I've seen nothing you've typed thus far that indicates anything you say should be taken seriously...

If I stopped interacting with people I fundamentally disagree with, the only person I'd have left to talk to would be myself.

If I could get my personalities down to single figures I'd be in with a chance...

I think I'll keep talking to people....it's just easier.

I don't understand why people would want their whole world surrounded only by folks they agree with but I sure as hell know a few who are just like that.

Will there be some push back or maybe a bit of consequences from folks "outrage" or whatever? Yeah, but I don't think cancel would be the appropriate term as long as the man is selling big shows and sunshine still plays every other hour on the classic rock stations.
