• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

CRAZY OR CONVENTIONAL FLAME?

What floats your boat? A regular looking top, or a top with flame all over the place like a "Bomb Burst"?!

I tend to like anything that is/or appears to be Eastern Maple. This is my favorite burst top:

I'm in the middle

Dean, I like bomb tops, but if the tone is not there, you can always just stare a killer top for the rest of your life:dude

Conventional: wavy, gullwing, reverse chevron, 3d flame....NOT ruler stripes, pinstripes, or crazy patterns.

I've always been a fiddleback type of guy, but I just bought this 03/59 .:wow

The tone is what did it for me, and after really looking at the top, it is quite cool!

Hell yeah that's cool! What's the inherent tone like? What do you look for in the perfect sounding les paul?

Just a well balanced tone. Not bright with good mids and non-muddy lows. You know........that nice hollow growl is what makes me keep 'em. This guitar fits the bill! :dude

Subtle to no flame - I like the simpler looking ones - like Pagey and B. Gibbons 58 to no flame at all. There is soo much flame these days that it has lost appeal (for me personally).

Look at the one here on the Les Paul forum intro page and title (top of this page) - LOVE that stuff! That's about as crazy as I like it.

Geetargoul's pic is nice too. http://photos.imageevent.com/surfjam/1958stratocaster/websize/les paul sn 9 0905.jpg
