Pretty sure ZZ Top was the band that had been together the longest with all original members. With Dusty Hill's passing, anybody know which band has taken their place? I'm drawing a blank.

Aerosmith have had changes at the guitar position a couple of times; But they currently have all the original members from when they signed their record deal in 1971.

I think they're talking about the unbroken lineup. THere's been some questions about drums the past couple years - there was something in or around the Vegas residency that Joey wasn't up to playing? EVen as a fan there was never really a clear story as to what was going on. But Joey did file suit against the band to be able to play.
Honestly I can't think of many from more than 20 - 25 years ago that haven't had any changes.
ZZ was kind of an outlier in that sense. I do think it's easier with a smaller lineup - 3 is easier to keep together than 4, is easier than 5 etc.

It would still be ZZ Top until another band breaks their record. I recall that U2 have been together since '79 and still have all original members. If they are the closest it will take 10 years to catch up to ZZ Top.

Note that it's not just original members in the band now. It's the same members from their first album to now without any leaving and returning.

That's a very hard record to break. I can't imagine any new band could ever beat ZZ Top given how the music business operates now.

RIP Dusty.

Like I said, Los Lobos since ‘73
Steve Berlin joined in 1978 which was after their first album. Plus other members came and went. The point in the thread is that ZZ Top existed as a recording act ('71 - '21) without any member changes. That is a great feat.

I know it's not John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
The Osmonds, maybe?
Would have suggested the Drifters. They've tended to breed replacements rather than hire them.

The original band is still together. The only addition is Steve Berlin. The support drummers they’ve used were never members.

Considering their first tour was 1979 and their first album came out in 1980, it would seem the other two guys aren’t really relevant as “founding” members from a practical perspective. Dik Evans left the band within a few weeks of the rebranding from Feedback to U2. I don’t think they even had any original songs at that time. I’d say U2 since 1978.
