• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Dave and Paige Davidson at last count have approximately 20 bursts at their shop, Well Strung Guitars in Farmingdale New York. Great people and great guitars! And 20 minutes from my house. Lucky me! Although I’ll never be able to afford to buy one, so unlucky me LOL. But those of you that can, this place is a candy store!… This picture of me taken a couple months ago shows about a dozen bursts as well as many ‘50s goldtops. Since this picture was taken he got in another nine bursts! Some of those new arrivals are below the picture of me.

Yeah when I was there I played all dozen of them! Not through an amp, didn’t wanna be that annoying LOL. And I didn’t ask the prices, but I can tell you that pretty much all of them are straight, no breaks or refins, etc.

I've called about a handful of guitars a few years ago (some strats and a burst that had some work done on it), and my jaw dropped each time. I've stopped calling.
Okay, so we can assume the asking prices are well above "average" ?
( If in general one can use that term for these collectabilities, that is.. )

My experience has been the same. Each time I’ve called in the last couple years with a legitimate interest, I’ve been unpleasantly surprised at the stated price. I’ve stopped calling and even looking.

What would you guess is a range of what they may bring these days?

Checking to see if i could dump my entire collection to hit the entry level....

My uneducated guess is, based on the beautyful specimens in Ed's post #1, somewhere between 300K and 500K USD.. I might be completely wrong though, wouldn't be the first time and surely not the last. :D

Bottom of the range is $175K- which you would only probably find at a show or one of the specialist shops- thinking Rumbleseat or Abalone- Berlin, Jim's, Gary, WHG, Emerald City are going to be on the higher end as a rule. R/S and Abalone don't mind some outliers. (another way of saying issues)

I'd be shocked if any of those guitars' prices began with a 3. 4 and up.

Impressive assemblage of guitars. I took a look at the website, no sunbursts listed but some nice, original examples of what appeared to be clean, original instruments. Everything on there is “call for price.” Probably a good place for a serious buyer to shop for an original sunburst Les Paul and have a good selection to choose from.

20 serial numbers after Birdy. Another closet find. They are still out there!

That price range would be for a headstock break or a refin ?

Yes for a break- lower for a refin. Breaks are even higher priced than this.

Any thoughts on this one (re-neck)? Presumably a full refin (if it is what it purports to be), as the top is nowhere near a tangerine-burst and the back looks faded but shows the same colour underneath the truss rod cover, where one would expect the red to be unfaded; the control cavity looks remarkably clean, with no evidence of any previous red finish/stain. Also, the tooling mark/lines (?) about half-way up the control cavity look unusual.

IMO: FAIL!
I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole.
But that's just me.. :)
