• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Sam Ash is a little more customer service oriented. Doesn't feel like you walk into a car dealership as the other does.

Whew! Guitar C = Car Dealership. Good comparison. Actually,I was tempted to check out Sam Ash because MF stock seems to always be backordered. Just got the July issue of Guitar Galleria (L&M) & while jonesed for a new Guitar...just can't...

Well, you know Musicians Friend is owned by Guitar Center, right?

Sam Ass is a little better than GC, but not by much. Support the independent dealers, like Wildwood, Dave's Guitar, Witchita Band, etc. The indies usually have better prices, IMO.

Sam Ash's prices aren't as good as GC. It also seems their Gibson selection is pretty weak - At least in the Chicago area stores.

I agree with MMC - I called Dave's the other day when looking at a higher end acoustic, and their pricing AND service blew away the mega-stores. Definitely getting my biz...

YES!

Please continue to support the smaller stores. I hate the corporate chains. MARS is well "ok". But, GC and the others are just capitalistic assholes. Please DO NOT SUPPORT THEM.

Let's bring back the cool little music shops.

I would prefer to pay more and get customer service, after care, experience and knowledge. Support your smaller dealers.

HOLD THE PHONE on assuming Guitar Center's prices are lower than Sam Ash or anyone else for that matter. With them you ALWAYS -- repeat, ALWAYS -- had better ask if the price includes the case. It usually doesn't.

Tougher to deal with the salespersons there than GC. I think their prices are a little higher as well. Salespeople are just as unhelpful as GC.

Hey I resent the equating of the Car Dealership to GC!!

Hey at the car dealership, at least they act like they want to sell you something... :lol2 And it's usually more than want you want to boot!

I bought a guitar from David Davidson of Sam Ash Vintage with no complaints but, I agree with y'all, I'd try to support your independent dealer when you find a good one. I drive 70 miles to Guitar Resurrection in Austin because I can't stand the poor excuses for music stores here in San Antonio (Mars etc.)

("Mars Music") :s:

I bought a Burns Marquee for my kid from Sam Ash in February. It was dirty, not in the original box, and was missing the tremelo arm. I contacted them about it, and I'm still waiting 5 months later.
Screw all those chains. We have a Guitar Center and a MARS where I live in MD. I sat there one day and played at least a dozen guitars and they all sucked. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason their prices are low is because they are selling b stock.
Beware
