• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Difference in tone between '57 Classics or Burstbuckers?

Is there any difference? It appears that maybe the '57 Classics are more consistant because of the way they are wound?

Also, would a 2001 '58 figured top come with '57 Classics or BB's? The reason I ask is that I am looking at a 2001 '58 and I was told that it has 57 Classics.

One more question...would a 2001 '58 have a Brazilian Rosewood board?

Sorry for all of these questions lately! I just wanna know what to look for when I'm pricing these babies out.

Thanks.

My whole thing is that I keep getting these Guitar Galleria catalogs and I've finally gotten to the point where I gotta have one of these Historic's. I guess I'm being a little too urgent about this.

I prefer the sound of '57 Classics over BB's... To me, the BB's sound like they're crapping out all the time, and the ones I've heard don't clean up very well at all. If all I played was material that was full on shred or maxed out distortion, the BB's might be a consideration that I'd still turn down. The '57s are more versatile and just sound better for what I do, which happens to run from clean to shred.

I like the Classics and have no issues with them.

Of course, it is all personal and depends on many variables. I just say that I like them.

Want mine? It's a Flametop '00 Les Paul Historic 1959 RI handpicked for resonance, a lively tone and easy action from about 20. Purchased brand new from Wildwood Music in Louisville, Colorado.

I have way to many guitars and this one is just to good to go unplayed.

Email me if you're interested.

(I can put whatever pickups you want in it BTW. I can put the original Gibsons back in it, pretty much any Duncans including some double cream Seth Lovers I have on order, or any of Lindy Fralin's humbuckers. I'll even include the 50's volume/tone control mod everybody here is talking about that gives a clearer tone when the volume is turned down. Been wanting to try that for a while now...)

The BBs I have are warmer & rounded than the 57s I had.

I like the 57's on my R9 too, but my original Paf's are also warmer and rounded.
