• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Dirty mop used to apply VOS goop?

I recently picked up a 2021 R7 Dark Back VOS finish. Guitar is fantastic, it just looks like someone laid the guitar on the floor and used a dirty mop to apply the VOS goop. Smeared and streaked all over everything except the fretboard. I will buff out eventually, but it’s just silly.

Not sure if it's something they apply, or just buffing compound they don't clean off since the VOS process seems to be just not doing the final buff and polish, anyone know?

The thing is, it looks like smeared in with a rag. Like there are streaked lines on the guitar. It’s getting better and over time will buff right out.

it is something that is applied....brushed on and/or applied with a cloth of some type.
It has nothing to do with any kind of buffing compound.

I can't see what your referring to with that image alongside the Custom but I'm interested to see what you see. Could you post some closer more detailed images ?

My tech just visited 12 instruments from my herd this past weekend and removed the VOS junk from my R9 Ice Tea burst Brazilian and oh my goodness it looks like a brand new R9 and I love it finally . This is the before , after I get my photos from Him I will post . 46487_Gibson_Custom_59_Les_PauL_Brazilian_98405_2_4000x_progressive.jpg

This could be the Les Paul on the cover of 'The Beauty of the Burst'.
It's stunningly beautiful.

2004 was the last year that Gibson applied the full historically accurate finishing process that gives Les Paul's from 1952 onward that unmistakable clarity and depth. It's a time consuming, detailed and skilled process.
The VOS, finish came in the next year along with the Plek machine. A full finish was still available but at a considerable price hike, as I recall.

I'm looking forward to the new images, as your VOS finished R9 is something else..

That's real nice, El Gringo.
This one smokes all of the other ones including the one in my Avatar (which of course has the prettier top ) I can't prove it in court but this one just has a real vintage tone to it and that was right out of the box.

Cool looking Les Paul. Love the swirl in the fretboard. I am curious - how do you remove the VOS finish?

My tech has all the magic potions and cleaners and polishes and he tells me he uses Gibson Polish and I don't believe him for a second
